Today is my dad’s birthday, and the first one he’s not here for.

My dad and I were really close, like worked together, hang together, stream us playing video games close. I always thought “I’m so lucky that my parents are young, they may even outlive me”. Sadly that luck wasn’t true, and my dad, Dave Currie passed away last Christmas at the age of 52. It came out of nowhere, in the middle of many plans, many big life steps and in the middle of his life.

My dad has always been “Dave”, a “Dave” that is so uniquely identifiable to him where my friends never would refer to him as Dallas’ Dad, it would be Dave. The similar interests and close age meant we were more that a father son, we were friends, best friends. The person you call for advice, or new tech/cars, the crazy situation you just found yourself in, or how to put together a guzzi swing arm because the shaft isn’t lining up. I feel like my phone will ring at any point and hear “What’s up Dally!”

When that person is gone, It hurts, unfathomably.

Of course we have the memories of all the great times we had. I can look at most items I have and connect it with a story with my Dad. There’s no shortage of memories.

But there were supposed to be more memories.

“We gotta do a trip like this”. “We should totally work on a project like this”. “What are you up to this weekend buddy”.

Life for us will continue, but it’s different, and I wish it wasn’t.

I can pride myself that a large part of who I am is the great work and love that my mom and dad gave me and I’ll think about him everyday, forever.

After the shoot in NY, the RW team took the scanned photos and created material that would go in the time capsule. I even got my mama roped into the project mounting the ektachrome onto slides to install in the book, and use in a personal projector.

This capsule had looks that resonate with the past 120 years to be opened in 2145

Work from the capsule, this projects ask was to capture images of red wing’s timeless boots to be placed in a time capsule on the company’s 120th birthday. We wanted to include slides from the shoot in the capsule as well as use the slides in further marketing materials. So we shot most of the images on @kodak Extachrome 100.  Working hand in hand with the RW team, we put our sweat, sweat and sweat into this one on one of the hottest days in NY last year. The team at RW is always amazing to work with to take their concept and bring it to life, thanks for having me on!

Red Wing Heritage x Fendi

The story of Red Wing Boots founder through a ship wreck while traveling to America.
.
We shot in the St James hotel, which is fitting being a time capsule of furniture and Red Wing memorabilia (also haunted vibes).
.
We also captured some added shots around two harbors on a freezing rain filled night. Looked great for the shots, but man it was cold.

Really happy with how this came out, and all the great work with the team at RW and production.
