September came and went FAST🔥! Between traveling, new connections, and a few unexpected moments along the way, it was definitely a month worth remembering.

As the year keeps moving, I’m just grateful for every opportunity, every lesson, and every room God continues to place me in. Here are a few of my highlights from September! 💚

I think August was an interesting month for us all, am I right? Almost every day seemed hotter than the last, but for some, August also meant vacations, the start of classes, conferences—you name it.

For me, I got to do a couple of fun things in August, while also running into some new business along the way! Here are a few of my highlights from August!

I gotta put a praise on July! 🙌🏾 One of the biggest highlights was attending the 2026 HBCU Kings & Queens Conference with over 50 HBCUs and nearly 300 Kings and Queens from across the nation. Grateful for the knowledge, connections, and opportunity to collaborate with so many amazing leaders. Thank You, Jesus, for an unforgettable month. ❤️

Shoutout to @n.asiaaaaa__ for the amazing collage and design!

🎉💚💛 Spartans, let’s have a SAFE Homecoming! 💛💚🎉

Homecoming is a time to celebrate, connect, and make memories—but safety should always be part of the plan! Our SAFE Space Peer Educators are here with a few reminders to help you look out for yourself and your fellow Spartans this Homecoming:

🗣️ Consent is O.M.F.G. — Ongoing, Mutual, Freely Given. Always ask, listen, and respect the answer.

👀 Be an active bystander — If you see something that doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it. Step in safely, get help, or check in with someone.

🤝 Know your resources — Support is available on campus. You are never alone when you need information, assistance, or someone to talk to.

Have fun, look out for one another, respect boundaries, and make this a Homecoming to remember for all the right reasons! 🏠💚💛

Over 100 HBCUs in the nation where the greatest innovators are made. I’m proud to say I’m a Mister at the best one in Virginia.

Happy Homecoming, Norfolk State 🔰 by @dalontolson_

HBCU Kings and Queens carry more than a title. They carry the culture, the history, and the pride of their entire campus every time they step onto the yard. That is why we at Watch The Yard are launching a new series dedicated to introducing you to the leaders wearing the crown this year, continuing with Norfolk State University.

Mister Norfolk State University Dalon Tolson is a senior Finance major from Washington, D.C. Miss Norfolk State University Samiyah Hudgins is a senior Health Service Management major from Virginia Beach, Virginia, and a soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., initiated in Spring 2025. Together, Tolson (@dalontolson_ ) and Hudgins (@samiyah.ayana) represent Norfolk State’s Spartan Nation with a shared commitment to representation and community.

Watch The Yard put out an open call to HBCU Kings and Queens across the country and we were able to interview Tolson and Hudgins about their reign.

Four days. Four nights. One unforgettable experience.

Here is my presentation of the 2026 Leadership Institute, featuring the Best in Class. Thank you to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund for choosing me to attend this conference, making me one selected scholar out of over 3,000 applicants.

In honor of the final day of the TMCF Leadership Institute, we asked one simple question:

“If you could describe your TMCF experience in ONE word, what would it be?”
