I am super happy to have an entry titled #remotelistening on “Listening Glossary” a wonderful new book edited by the fabulous @soundarthannah , an inventory of 250 approaches and more-than-definitions on Listening. A much needed companion to all the curious, imaginative and attentive listeners out there. It will be out on October 8th via @silver.press Listening Glossary explores the many meanings and practices of listening. In an era shaped by climate crisis, war and deepening social inequalities, listening is increasingly called upon to bear witness – to melting glaciers, disappearing species, militarised borders, extractive infrastructures and other forms of violence and loss. This glossary is a practical guide to listening as a social, political and imaginative practice. It gathers over two hundred terms from art, ecology, activism, psychology, education and philosophy across nine decades of thinking about listening as a way of relating to others, environments and structures of power. Entries invite listening through another’s ears or from specific perspectives, encountering forms of listening that range from the non-cochlear to the interspecies. Together, these entries reveal listening as a critical method for understanding and transforming the worlds we inhabit. — Art direction and design for “Aquarium” from @dalotgrm. The album tells the story of a lionfish living inside a fish tank of an aquarium. The musical tableau draws from a variety of influences including Greek kid’s tv shows from the 80s and early 90s as well as more contemporary influences often encountered in the sound of Dalot leaning towards more minimalist, electronic and experimental sounds. The music featured is an adaptation of the original soundtrack composed for the dance performance for children titled “Aquarium” by Caterini Dinopoulou commissioned by the Municipality of Chania and KEPPEDIH-KAM presented as part of the “Open Sails” Festival 2021. Label: Same Difference Music • All music is written, performed and produced by Maria Papadomanolaki • Mastering: Stefan Konstantinidis at @fabrika_music_studio • Art direction, Design: @overpagejo #vinyl #packaging #design by @dalotgrm
Dear Friends, It's bandcamp Friday and I am sharing with you a new longform piece made from recordings of live performances of my "Ancestors" album, dating back to 2013-2014. What I love about this material is that the recordings I made kept all the textural properties of the spaces they were recorded in. The ambiances, reverberations, gestures and breaths are all part of this new composition. While I removed all the melodic and structural charcteristics of the original pieces of the album, the core atmosphere and sound of the album is still there, as an echo and a prompt to relisten.
