Now I have long been the self appointed greatest bingo caller. I have given myself this title but I am now seeking a new mandate and that is why I have stepped down as bingo caller and will this afternoon be re-standing as bingo caller at Stags Head South Shields. If you come and play the bingo then that is giving me a fresh mandate to call myself the greatest bingo caller. This is me versus the bingo calling establishment (Mecca, Gala, Buzz and the legendary Blake Robson). I’m putting the issue directly in the hands of the bingo players. I have never been angrier at the claim that i am ‘just a bingo caller in a pub’. I refute this claim, I once called bingo on a boat. I’ve called it in a dressing room in a theatre in Bridlington. I’ve called it in a function suite at a wedding at The Customs House, it is not just in a pub. Heck, even in lockdown I called bingo in a street and on a patch of grass on an estate square. So I ask you to turn out again today at 3pm and play bingo and by showing up you are agreeing, I am the best bingo caller. Thank you. by @damestevey

Today Bob Stott takes his final earthly bow.What Bob gave us, we have forever. Laughter. Love. Light. What Bob gave us inspired future generations. I for one am where I am in life thanks to Bob (and Dotty).What Bob gave us was a gift. A unique warmth like no other. A warmth we’ll keep in our hearts until we’re reunited. What’s Bob have us we must celebrate as it deserves to be celebrated. I was lucky enough to call Bob a friend. After years of looking up to him I was fortunate enough to get to work alongside him, with him, as an equal - that’s the way he always treated me, although I knew I was on stage with the master, still learning. He was my champion. Always. Constantly telling me how proud he was. It was the chance encounters though, which were regular both living near the West Park. We’d chat for ages. His laughter infectious. His mind - unfathomable. “Hallow Bonny Lad!” he’d bellow at me across the street, whatever I was heading to, I’d be late for now. We’d reminisce a lot, we’d talk about and celebrate everyone’s successes, we’d yearn for more to do at home together on stage. I’ve dedicated my life to being like Bob, in every way possible and let’s face it, there is no better role model. If I’m quarter the man Bob lived his life being that’ll do me! I dedicate all I do as Dame Betty to the memory of Bob Stott and Dame Dotty. I like to think Dotty was Betty’s Mother, as she was all of our Mother’s. This is your day Bob, the we have for you will not dim. The memories we all shared we will keep alive. The laughter will ring loud today as we tell tale after tale. Bob Stott. Before I even knew what an inspiration was, you inspired me. You literally shaped my path in life. Then you showed my the way down the path and encouraged me along. Your warmth and support, your love and humour not only made you the best Dame I ever saw but it made you the best friend anyone could want. Working alongside Bob on countless Laffalang shows was a real pleasure and Bob’s 70th Birthday show was one of life’s highlights. I’ll never forget the messiest messy scene. That DVD gives me such happy memories. My heart is broken today at the news but I am so blessed and privileged to have know you Bob. Love you Dotty 💛 by @damestevey

The Wizard of Oz. A week has passed since The Wizard of Oz drew to a close. I’ve had a lot of time to process and think about it. It was a special contract. It was a special show. Why? Everything was just right. Firstly, a incredibly talented cast, particularly vocally strong, excluding me, but sometimes you’ve just got to step back and let others have a go. A great creative and production team beginning with the script, additions, direction, visuals, costumes, sound and lights creating a visually and aurally sumptuous production. The team - and I think this is what elevates it - really got on with each other and I think it showed. We were having fun, we were all helping each other out, we got each other through and we LAUGHED! We laughed so much. That showed, we were a team and because of that we enjoyed the show and I think that transpired to our audiences. I’m not going to single anyone out because this absolutely was an ensemble. One I am privileged to have been a part of.Thank you to everyone that was involved - I am so grateful and I know our lives will cross again. Today I will perform as Dame Betty for approx. 2,400 people at The Victoria Hall, Bolton in Bolton Panto’s Beauty and the Beast. I will change costume a total of 39 times. That’s just today. Happy 3 show Sunday! ❤️ by @damestevey

Happy Panto Dame Day 2025! Celebrated on Dec 20th, the day of the great Dan Leno’s birthday who popularised the role of the Dame in the music halls of the 1880’s. Portraying her as a relatable, working-class mother facing everyday struggles like poverty. This makes the pantomime Dame the cornerstone of British pantomime, it’s comic heart and one of the most iconic elements that defines the genre. It is an honour to play Dame Betty in @boltonpanto at @the_victoria_hall_bolton ❤️ by @damestevey
