This was our first time working with him, and from the beginning, the intention was clear, create a portrait that felt as powerful, raw, and expressive as the music he represents.there’s something about the way he carries himself his confidence, his presence, the way he embodies his artistic identity that naturally became part of the inspiration behind these portraits.

I built the set around two beautiful ambient lights, allowing them to exist not just as light sources, but as part of the visual language of the image. I paired that with soft light and, in certain frames, additional lighting to shape the subject and give the portrait its depth.

The colour story was intentional too. Tomato red against a deep green chair and couch created that beautiful complementary tension two colours naturally fighting for attention while still working together within the frame.

But during post-production, I found myself drawn somewhere else.

Black and white.

I’ve always had a strong love for monochromatic imagery, especially when the removal of colour allows the emotion, texture and attitude of a portrait to speak louder. In this case, the grunginess, the aggression and the rawness of the image felt too good to ignore.

What started as a portrait built around colour eventually became something much more visceral in black and white.

And that’s one of the things I love about portrait photography: sometimes the final image reveals itself somewhere completely different from where you started.

A first-time client.
A powerful presence.
A little colour theory.
A lot of attitude.

And a portrait that simply had to feel as strong as the person in front of my camera.
