My first deer in over 16 years, so very happy I got to share the experience with family..

7:01am two doe walk under my platform just as planned , couldn’t have asked for a better scenario. I planned on this shot had my strong side shot set up for it. Reached for my bow trying to ignore the excitement and jitters (shakes). Pulled back lined up the shot let the arrow fly.
I aimed for the exit as the deer was quartered away a bit. Hit her decent and could tell the exit was a good hit. Was over come with many emotions , some I wasn’t sure how to handle. I just shot a deer, in my head this was good and bad. I was shaking happy , sad and excited.
I waited what seemed like forever. Got my emotions together , got down from my tree and began recounting what happened. Went to where I hit the deer several times looking for the arrow , blood , hair but couldn’t find anything. I walked to where I thought she ran but , still no luck. I kept this routine up for 1.5-2 hours.
Called my cousins @_nicholasdistefano_ who is a professional dog tracker and his brother @michael_diste who is also a professional tracker. I told them the situation and they , after setting things aside to find time to come help me insured me they would find the deer. I wasn’t so sure. I just spent the morning looking for any signs and wasn’t able to find anything. Spirit was low. I wounded a deer I thought , def not a feeling I wanted to have on the first day of the season that I prepped so hard for in the past few months.
Things happen fast , so I showed the the last place I saw the deer and where I thought she ran. But the dog was pulling in a different direction. I told the team I don’t think the deer went that way. Nicholas said very confidently I trust my dog. I said me too then. Michael on hand and knees was able to confirm the dog was on blood , I mean Nelli , who is the dog , found drops of blood hardly even visible when touched. I felt better but still not great. The lack of blood made my stomach drop. We have a start but what would the finish be …
We kept on the trail finding a wound bed and soon I hear Nicholas say She found her…. The rest is a blur.. by @damian3641
