A first glimpse behind the scenes with designer Sabine Marcelis as Light and Color comes to life ✨
Known for her distinctive use of light, reflection, transparency, and color, Marcelis creates works that transform the way we experience materials and space.

We caught up with Sabine Marcelis during the installation of her first museum exhibition. As Light and Color takes shape, an immersive world of reflection, color, and luminous materials begins to unfold.

Light and Color
30 October 2026 – 4 April 2027
Opening: 29 October 2026, from 7 p.m.

PRE-ORDER! ‘MAKING A SHOW, SABINE MARCELIS’!

‘Making a Show’ is our newest photobook with Dutch artist and designer Sabine Marcelis (@sabine_marcelis), now available for pre-order.

Photographed by Mattia Balsamini (@mattiabalsamini) inside Sabine’s Rotterdam studio in the months before her first museum exhibition at Museum für Gestaltung Zürich (@museumgestaltung), ‘Sabine Marcelis—Light and Color’, the book documents an exhibition in transit: light, colour, and material stretched, poured, altered, and refined until they reach the simplicity that is Sabine’s fingerprint. Punctuated by WhatsApp messages and email snapshots between Sabine’s team and the museum’s, ‘Making a Show’ distils the incantatory movement of an exhibition in the making and the infrastructure of people behind it. Alongside, curator Damian Fopp (@damian_fopp) grounds the book with a written introspection on living inside her universe as the show took shape, declaring by the end that ‘what appears effortless is anything but’.

The exhibition is on view October 30, 2026 to April 4, 2027.

💡 Sabine Marcelis – Light and Color 🎨

Light becomes a material. Color becomes space.

In the first museum exhibition dedicated to the Dutch-New Zealand designer, the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich presents key works from across her career since the founding of her studio in 2011. Through light, color and materiality, designer Sabine Marcelis (@sabine_marcelis) creates immersive environments that transform the way we perceive our surroundings. Luminous objects, atmospheric installations and immersive spaces invite visitors into Marcelis's unique world.

🌲 More than Human—Designing with Nature 🌲

Featuring 30 projects from design, art, and architecture, the exhibition shows how design can move beyond a human centred approach to include the needs of plants, animals, and entire ecosystems. It explores new ways of relating to the living world, presenting practical and speculative ideas for coexistence, and inviting us to see the world through the eyes of other living beings.

💚 Discover how design can reconnect us with the living world. 💚

We are delighted to look back on last Thursday’s opening of our new exhibition "More than Human—Designing with Nature".
A touring exhibition from the @designmuseum, London.

After the welcoming remarks by @damian_fopp, Curator at Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, and @justinmcguirk, Director of Future Observatory, the exhibition officially opened its doors.

The topic resonates strongly with our audience: the exhibition presents current projects that demonstrate how design, in collaboration with science, architecture, art, and technology, can contribute to protecting natural ecosystems. We were thrilled to receive such positive first impressions.

🌲 More than Human—Designing with Nature
📆 On view until 31 May 2026
📍 Ausstellungsstrasse 60

A rich accompanying programme invites you to dive deeper into the themes of the exhibition. Further information and registration options can be found on our website – the link is in our bio.

We look forward to welcoming you. 🫶 by @damian_fopp

NOW OPEN:🌲 More than Human—Designing with Nature 🌲

For the first time in Switzerland, the international "more-than-human" design movement takes center stage—looking beyond a human-centered perspective to explore design that treats nature and humans as equals, considering the needs of plants, animals, and entire ecosystems. The exhibition shows based on current projects how design can work together with science, architecture, art, and technology to contribute to protecting natural ecosystems.
