What you saying, bby? ✏️

📌 A quick flick-back to Games Night with the incredible @bootleg.griot family

Here I took a page out of my practice with a word-game I call PICTIONARISH ✍🏽

It takes its name from the guessing game, Pictionary, which launched in the US in 1985 and quickly made its way to 60 countries and millions of dining rooms around the world – including the living rooms of my childhood in Jo’burg 🛋️

I have echoey memories of my parents and their friends yelling in laughter and protest late into the night as they tried to decipher each other’s game-play. Communication, innit 👩🏾‍🍳

Essentially, it’s a guessing game.

In PICTIONARISH, though, we mix it up with different ways of describing a thing, because language itself is a mixed bag of the verbal and non-verbal.

For this edition, we explored ideas of love and connection in the desert in age of The Algorithm 👾

These pictures can’t contain the energy of that room, but eternal love to whoever yelled out “Protein Couple” 🥲

3 years ago I held my first solo show titled Games Night — Johannesburg. It was a mixed-media exhibition-turned-experience of the games we tend to play in all things love ⏩

Tomorrow night, I’m teaming up with @bootleg.griot for a lil’ Games Night with the DXB family 👉🏽👈🏽

Less exhibition and more experience, this time we’ll be getting wordy, and we may or not end up playing with feelings.

Will be reporting back, bby 🫡
