we had been sitting on these for a while but now they’re finally ready: two ballads to bookend the last damper release.

it’s a special honor to have keith latinen from @mtoriander/@eeiwale featured on “lights go out” which will also be the title track for the ep.

huge thanks to my former bandmates (especially @rainaaa.w for pulling double duty on drums as well as mixing and mastering) and everyone else who helped make these songs such cathartic pieces of music to play and to listen to.

looking forward to releasing the rest in the coming months so stay tuned for updates on that but for now—link! bio! go!

so much can happen in the course of six months or in just a matter of seconds.

i remember neither the car accident nor much of the hospitalization that followed but march 3rd, 2024 is a date that will be forever etched into my memory.

i considered including a picture that was taken of me later that day but i realized it might be too upsetting for some people and i’d rather focus on the present anyway.

suffice it to say, i’m lucky to be alive.

now, i’m in the city i’ve wanted to live for five years with the job that i worked toward getting for the past two years and i wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for my family, my friends and, more generally, the kindness of others.

for that, i am eternally grateful and i will do my best to treat others in kind.

i was at a staff meeting recently and one of our administrators asked us for one way that we stepped out of our comfort zone this summer and i said that i’ve been making a concerted effort to tell all the people i love that i love them and i suggest you do the same.

you might be surprised how many people love you too.

also, don’t forget to stop and smell the roses because they’re in bloom right now.

p.s. since this is still primarily going to be used as a band account up until the last batch of songs is released, i should probably add that i don’t have anything new to share in regards to music but maybe i will soon. by @damperthom

taken shortly after having mission burritos on our last night together as a band.

it’s been three years since i asked @justjayenow and @chris.amsel.music as well as @giantsloth0927 to be part of this project and seven years since i started performing under the name damper.

it’s what originally brought me to the bay area: to start something that would allow me to write and perform music on a larger scale and collaborate with some of the best musicians and friends that i have ever known.

i had already moved back to sacramento by this time last year which made coming out to sf difficult (not to mention a near-fatal car accident) and i’m moving again tomorrow to portland so it felt like a natural time to end the project.

it’s bittersweet, knowing that i might not play music with any of my former bandmates ever again but if there’s anything that i’ve learned in the past year, it’s to be grateful for the time that we do have with each other.

so thank you jaye, chris, phil and everyone else who contributed so much of their time and energy and talent to this project over the years.

i want to thank everyone else who has helped or collaborated with damper in some way, shape or form and there are too many to name at this point but you know who you are.

last but not least, i want to thank everyone who has listened to damper through all its different permutations over the years.

i can only hope that it made you feel the way that some of my favorite bands make me feel.

there are still some songs that we hope to release as soon as they’re ready but until then, thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of your summer.

🖤

On this episode I sit down with @damperthom from @damperbandca , and twinkly emo/alt rock band from San Francisco. We talk a little about early Damper before getting into their latest release “German Shepherd / Pisces Moonlight”. Two very dynamic songs that work well together. Before we end we talk about the lathe cuts that they are doing and the future of the band. Be sure to follow Damper and check out “German Shepherd / Pisces Moonlight”!!!
