As a conversion practices survivor, there is still so much trauma to process.
This was filmed earlier this year after attending BFI Flare, where I was made to feel ashamed for simply asking for a still from a lesbian film.
I’ve been living as myself since coming of age in the early noughties. Before conversion practices, my sexuality was first pathologised. Afterwards, I lost so much of my ability to live authentically and healing from VAW myself
Last year, I experienced two hate-related incidents. One involved an assault at work. I was called “not normal”, “choice” and “special”. I’m still awaiting a court date.
For the past 11 months I’ve repeatedly asked Galop for emotional support as a conversion practices survivor. I was offered none. No safe space to share my experiences. No support following the assault. No support recovering information from the police. They also failed to respond to a complaint for over 100 days, exceeding their own complaints policy.
As a dyslexic woman living with PTSD, Galop has not supported me as a lesbian woman or conversion practices survivor.
You may wonder why I’m standing outside Southbank talking about Sigmund Freud. The Southbank was made for people like me. That’s its purpose. Something Galop failed to understand.
I was made for speeches. I was meant for stages. In good ways, not through suffering.
This recording reflects on post-war psychiatry and how much of today’s public health thinking emerged from that era. It is not my conversion practices story.
I found solidarity overseas. Homophobic abusers don’t call Galop. That’s why I continue to advocate for myself, speak out about the harms I’ve experienced, and campaign for the gaps that remain in any future conversion practices ban. Solidarity I find within.
I’m healing. And I’m not done speaking. 💜
I’m just getting started.

Living large at Walsall Pride last weekend. 🏳️‍🌈

I lifted off to launch Damsel Dyke, a subsection of Katie Ray Studios, with proper people, real folk.

As you can tell, The Cheeky Girls' inspiration lived with me in spirit throughout the day.

I had a range of prints on sale: one collection at the forefront of the stand focusing on lesbian family life. I am all about bringing the gay into the everyday and same-sex parents' daily lives.

In the back of the stand? Something a little more cheeky! 😉

Digital sales and online prints will be arriving in due course.

Great to connect with so many people whilst reppin' the Lesbian Visibility Flag and grateful for the positive feedback from the crowd.

Some of my favourite conversations were with teachers talking about young people asking questions about same-sex parents in schools. I loved hearing people's responses to the narrative element of my work and the stories behind the illustrations.

Who knows what's next for Damsel Dyke.

I'm still setting up. Still healing. Still rebuilding.

Still putting myself out there all the same.

Living large & launching.

Graffiti and Homophobia: Why "Tom Is Gay" Is Not Harmless

Graffiti often reflects the culture around us, sometimes rebellious, sometimes political, sometimes cruel. A recent example read simply: "Tom is g-y." At first glance it might appear trivial, even childish. But the words carry weight. For lesbian and gay people, this phrase is not neutral. It is offensive because it weaponizes who a person is as an insult.

There was also graffiti adjacent to it referring to KK-. I do not know whether this was intended as a reference to the Ku Klux Klan, equally I do not know who is out there. Yet, seeing homophobic graffiti alongside a reference commonly associated with a hate group only raised a concern about what kind of message was being left in a public space.

I originally reported the graffiti to the council in June 2025, after being subject to an in-work hate crime in the Civil Service, being called choice, special, not normal, an assault on the stairs.

Seeing this graffiti in the locality was the icing on the cake when I was simply going to buy a loaf of bread.

What followed was a year of emails, meetings with a councillor, and repeated attempts to get action taken, all without resolution. It was only after making a corporate complaint that progress was made.

The annoying thing about it every time I got an update on the complaint, boom back in my inbox again - Tom is Gay.

No one should have to spend a year fighting to have hateful graffiti removed from their community.

Autumn 2025: is where my vegetable patch began, from crushing up muscle & egg shells layering with egg boxes, cardboard, before gathering leaves.

The foundation was strong, the labour, manual loving and kind of therapeutic.

From shells to leaves, biodegradable box, the rebirth is here,
When I’m not drawing lesbian sex & bringing the gay into the everyday.

I am pursue #sustainability incentives, a fine gardener with an interest in Country Living #illustration. At the moment, I’m just flexing.

This is my 1st harvest of rhubarb, & it surely was successful baby! Growers you are not technically meant to harvest in the 1st year, the plant is strong like the foundations I sowed.
As who knows where we’ll be next year.

I drew this drawing to go with the harvest, weaving in my flex & charm.

Introducing Pepper AKA - Mischeif - 💍🍩At the end of last year, just after Christmas Pepper came to live with me

She left flag county behind, the area I am adjacent too, I must have seen over 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧150+ flags on the journey, initially I felt a sense patriotism , yet when it seems to exceed a few I i cannot help feel a little strange, eary & unruly- it’s not horse guards parade nor entering the Welsh border or otherwise.

She’s now settled living in more multicultural 60/40 community, feeling at home.
She’s tough, soft & strong.
& Builds pretty awesome burrows.

Rabbits 🐇 lay with their legs open & their feet like when they’re relaxed, & comfortable

It’s her daily state. Especially with all the activities she gets up to…

She dances around me in the morning.
She free roams,

Sometimes she’s acts like she’s chief with all the free roaming, chilling on a chair puffin up her chest.

Sometimes she hides, not for long always peeps up standing tall,

😍 She’s adorable

She knows,

Another day, another dance 💃 🐰

At night she looks out for me, yes she’s literally stepped up into full blown look out duty whilst I rest.

She comes up through the night, checks around my my head and body as I’m falling asleep , & keeps her eye on the door, The Watcher, she sees me as part of her warren,

Perhaps Pepper is a superstar, when she jumps on my back, as a stage or perhaps she’s helping me with my curb appeal with 👯‍♀️ the ladies …

The curb appeal is over. 👯‍♀️

Some children have donors, not dads.

Shardee is pregnant with her and her Missus Victoria’s second child. As Shardee is mixed race, they’re having a donor whose heritage and background reflect their family.

Jacob is reading a bedtime story, to prepare for his new role as an older brother. He is learning that families come in many forms and that siblings can have their own unique appearance, including skin tones.

Their family is a complete, legitimate and loving family unit and deserves the same societal respect and recognition as any other family, with inclusive, non-heteronormative language that accurately reflects and respects their two-mum, mixed-heritage family.
