Thank you so much Imanari Sensei! You are a legend. I will be sure to come visit again! THANK YOU ! ! !

This trip to Japan I had the honor and privilege to roll at Imanari Sensei’s gym here in Shinjuku. Not only did I roll with people all over the world (AUS, USA, GER, JP 🌏), BUT IMANARI HIMSELF ASKED ME FOR A ROUND. ❤️‍🔥😭 Yes, he absolutely demolished me. DEFINITELY NEED to start leg fighting and upping my leg defense. Will post a highlight reel for IG (90second limit). Full 5-Minute round with Imanari will be posted on YouTube (pls spare me, i’m a white belt. 1 year, 3 months) taken in 今成柔術 Imanari JIU JITSU by @dan0mlght

This past Saturday, I competed in Jiu-Jitsu World League’s GOLDEN STATE X, my first ever jiu-jitsu competition. Though initially upset with how I did on that day, after reviewing my tapes and re-evaluating what went RIGHT and WRONG — I am proud of myself and my performance. I know that I put my best effort into my matches and I made sure to leave everything out on the mat once I stepped on. I could not be more grateful and appreciative toward all my training partners @rootedjiujitsu and all the other Sabre affiliates for helping me prepare for the competition. HUGE THANK YOU to my coaches @billykittel and @joebacani707 for putting in their time into making me a sharper and more technical competitor as I continue my jiu-jitsu journey. Special shoutout to Kahari @fishtacos88 and my Uncle Romeo @mayos858 for pushing me to pursue the sport! Everyone played their part. I’ll spare you all my meticulous notes and instead share this video compilation of the tournament + clips of the journey so far.

I began my jiu-jitsu journey just shy of 10 months ago from today, and I can say without a doubt that jits is one of the most difficult things that I have ever encountered in my life. I am constantly challenged by the time I walk in the door ‘til the sound of the last bell of class; even beyond our gym doors I’ve found myself “rolling”, practicing with my teammates or watching the plethora of YouTube videos out there to gain more knowledge and understanding for the moves and techniques we do. I absolutely love this sport and it has become a part of my daily life, something that I hope continues on for decades to come because I LUV DIS SH!T.❤️‍🔥 Jiu-jitsu I think is a very personal journey, you truly learn what you’re made of, it brings out the heart and confidence within you, and you also just become tougher in the process. There is ALWAYS something to learn and someone to learn from —- no matter their size or strength —-that is what makes it truly special. #ROOTEDJIUJITSU #SabreJiuJitsu
