Went for a drive to the woods to test out my new air freshener 😇 The Mazda has done well considering the events I've done this year! Especially two days of @garage21_ltd C-Course, and 2 weekends in a row doing Drift Kings demos at Silverstone! Getting ready for a crazy few weeks doing demos at @japfest_official Goodwood, @exclusiverons Takeover at Santa Pod, and finishing off the year at the best weekend ever - @driftmatsuri #mazda #mx5 #grippedup #drift #drifting by @dan6061

So much joy, @gripped.up - - Donnington Park C Course - - #cars #photography #automotivephotographer #drifting #meihan by @dan6061
On the build up to @garage21_ltd Donington C Course I spent a lot of time practicing on the sim over and over, which definitely paid off! My first lap felt like my hundredth, and yet each lap felt like a new challenge. How you come out of the first corner determines how the feint entry at the wall goes. So much fun! Want to do it every week #garage21 #grippedup #drifting #meihan #ccourse by @dan6061

Build Breakdown | Dan from GrippedUp! Over the last nine years, this car has been through so many different looks, suspension setups and engine configurations. It started out as a 90hp 1.6, which was later turbocharged on the cheap. “I kept blowing up engines and got sick of that,” says Dan, “so I went back to N/A to keep it simple.” Under the bonnet these days you’ll find an ITB’d 1.8-litre VVT engine, a setup that has proven to offer the best combination of performance and reliability. It’s mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a 4.1 diff. “We find this to be the perfect gear ratio for N/A drifting,” says Dan. Nestled behind those Rota wheels are what Dan describes quite simply as “the BEST knuckles ever,” @destroyordie Super Knuckles. They’re paired with MeisterR coilovers, another tried and tested option you’ll find on a whole host of both drift and grip MX-5s. Besides a few styling changes, Dan’s car has remained pretty much the same for the last few years, which tells you all you need to know. If you want to build a dependable drift car that can take plenty of abuse but still embarrass much more powerful machinery (and throw backwards entries), this is a recipe that’s hard to beat. The most important mod of all though? The driver mod. “I've always been one for upgrading the car when I feel it's right to. It makes you really have to DRIVE the car to get it right, instead of the car doing the work for you,” says Dan.
