We opened this absolute mammoth of a show tonight. The last six weeks have been a whirlwind of new friends and new challenges, both of which have taught me so much already.

Did a scary thing yesterday.

Since moving out of London, various jobs, a baby and general adult life have given me much less time to train than I used to have. I didn’t feel anywhere close to competition ready and the thought of going up against guys who were was nerve wracking. However, I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t compete at least once at Blue Belt and since my 8 year old stepson was brave enough to step on to the mats today, I had to show him I was too.

After my initial opponents dropped out of my bracket, I was offered a free gold medal just for showing up and doing nothing, which didn’t feel right. Instead, I dropped down to the age division below mine, and after a couple of challenging scraps managed to walk away with a silver but more importantly I helped remind Orlando (and myself!) how vital it is to show up and do the difficult things, especially when they’re scary.

Huge thanks to my new teammates at @boxmoorbjj , and especially coaches Dan and Louise, who somehow manage to cover an entire team across 8 different mats without missing a match. 🥋 @allstarsbjj by @dan__fraser

Today marks our final two performances at The Apollo for the West End Leg of Christmas Carol Goes Wrong. The last 2 months have been an absolute blast and I’m so proud of what we’ve all achieved on this show -

@christmasgoeswrong is officially open in the West End! Huge thanks to every single person involved in bringing this Christmas Behemoth to life, the amazing cast, incredible crew backstage, our indomitable director @mattyd0804, and of course my fabulous agents @scott_marshall_partners for helping introduce me to Mr Chris Bean - a literal dream role and one who I am so so lucky to get to revisit for a second time.

9 months in, 9 months out. After several early escape attempts she did actually stay in for a whole 9 months and decided to make her appearance exactly on her due date. The whole world is brighter with you in it baby girl. We’re so lucky to have you 🌸 by @dan__fraser

I’ve finished a lot of jobs before, and there’s always that peculiar mix of sadness, relief, exhaustion and optimism for the future that I’ve learned to expect and to process when a run comes to a end.

But this job was different.
This job was special.
This job, and the 16 months we spent doing it, changed my life in so many ways I’m not even sure I’ve recognised them all yet.

16 months spent with the best company I’ve ever worked with, laughing pretty much non-stop. Lifelong friendships forged, and an abundance of happy memories made. A role that challenged me in ways I both could and couldn’t foresee. The arrival of my baby daughter, and all the joys (and challenges) that come with a shift to your entire identity - becoming a father for the first time, and also becoming a parent whilst working in an industry that is, to put it mildly, not best suited for parenthood.

To the entire 10th anniversary team: I am unbelievably grateful for all that you’ve done for me these past 16 months, and I am so proud of what everything we’ve achieved together.

To my beloved @rachelj131 , who has not only been my rock throughout this whole experience but also, you know, grew and gave birth to an entire human being during this time - Thank You. I love you and I am so looking forward to finally getting to spend some proper time together as a family.

To the incoming cast who have their first show this evening, break a leg! If you have half as much fun as we did you’re in for a real treat.

And finally, to the chronically disappointed, furiously moustached, hopeless optimist that is Chris Bean. I’d always hoped, since I first saw @playgoeswrong just over 10 years ago, that our paths would cross, and you did not disappoint. Perhaps we’ll meet again someday… But, for now at least, farewell.
