1978 Les Paul Standard. 1973 Guild S-100. Amps by Ampeg, all 1970s. Not shown is a 1973 Ampeg VT-40 combo amp. I don't know what these speaker cabinets are because they're the least important to me

Dial in a sound trust you don't hate. If you like what you hear, stop being fussy. What's most important is to have a sound that isn't horrible, and even more than that, to play well. Develop good technique. Stop chasing tone. No one will notice X tone vs Y time, as long as both are not grating on anyone's ears.

What you think that you're hearing isn't what a mic hears, and it's not what's being "striped to tape", and it's not what someone listening to you hears. So stop chasing tone, regardless of what Rick Beato, Tim Pierce, and all the t-shirt cladden players of YouTube -with their cheesey vibratos - will foist on you.

"But I don't have vintage gear." Get a Firefly Les Paul-ish guitar, a Monoprice Stageright 15 watt tube amp, and a graphic EQ stomp box. Problem solved. Start practicing your bends and your vibrato. And wear a button down shirt with a collar; you're trying to be a musician, not a house painter. Have fun. by @dan_shaf

Alder .... each of these were colored one at a time. Yet, look at the color consistency. This is a result when you develop your coloring by layering, by multi-step finishing according to your specific finish schedule for your project. That finish schedule is much like a cooking recipe that you follow when you're cooking. The key aspects are (1) consistency, and (2) predictability. #multistepfinishing by @dan_shaf
