In the series FROM OUR WALLS, members of the team talk about works in the gallery that resonate with them personally. Today, Danai, Senior Director, Sales at KÖNIG GALERIE, introduces LOVE LUNCH IN TOKYO by Johanna Dumet (@johanna_dumet), a painting that perfectly reflects the artist’s distinctive way of transforming everyday moments into intimate, emotionally charged works.Known for her expressive and intuitive paintings, Dumet captures the atmosphere and memories connected to specific moments in her life. LOVE LUNCH IN TOKYO, one of her signature table scenes, was inspired by a lunch she shared in Tokyo with her then-fiancé, sculptor Manuel Wroblewski (@manuel_wroblewski), shortly after her solo exhibition at KÖNIG SEOUL. The work also incorporates the packaging from a Louis Vuitton × Yayoi Kusama bag she purchased during the trip—a personal object that references both the Tokyo setting and her background in fashion design.For Danai, this piece is a quintessential Johanna Dumet painting: vibrant, deeply personal, and full of narrative. Last week we opened Scenery in the Process of Being Formed, @rokkakuayako new exhibition with @koeniggalerie From bronze in Germany to ceramic in Spain, fabric in South Korea, and glass in Italy, the exhibition unfolds as a journey through three years of exploration into her sculptural vocabulary.It traces her movement through places, materials and atmospheres — how form slowly emerges through her hands, as landscapes enter her daily life: the light of a new city, the textures of a market, the rhythm of a coastline.The glass works created in Murano at the Berengo Studio retain the soft imprint of her gestures, while a fabric installation inspired by Seoul’s Namsan Hill echoes the city’s density through layered threads and fragments. Ceramics shaped in Mallorca carry Mediterranean warmth, their forms reappearing in another register in the bronze works cast in Berlin.Lucky girl that I am, I’ve had the chance to accompany Ayako through these explorations, witnessing her work evolve over the years.
