That is the expression dancers sometimes have, when they see the setup I have prepared for our shoot.

We had already used fabric and a fan when creating images with @danc_ermacoff previously. So I wondered how can we do things differently. Hence the strings and clothespins.

I thought of removing the strings in post. And I might have done so before the era of AI. But not any more. While early on the aesthetic of the image is what I aimed for, now I care more about authenticity. The experience of the creative collaboration and the memory these images will represent for the dancer counts much more.

It is always so much fun to create with you @danc_ermacoff!

There are a handful of dancers I’ve been lucky enough to work with regularly over the years. I first photographed @danc_ermacoff when she was just 13 for my book "Dancers at Home."

She has since grown into a beautiful and artistic dancer, defined by her gentle nature and immense patience. On every shoot we explore new concepts, lighting technique, or intricate movement that she perfects into work of art. by @danc_ermacoff
