I spent my last week as a 39 year old in Europe. There were moments that were full of magic. There were moments where I was crying inconsolably out of despair (if you watched my stories, you know). I still woke up each day with the intention of making it the best day ever because that is what you do — vacation or not.

I walk into the 4th floor, now with my bags packed: lessons learned from previous years. I carry these bags with grace, compassion and patience. These bags will be used here & there to guide me as I spend the next ten years on this floor.

IDK what is in store for me, but I DO know that I am loved and there are people in my life who will take care of me.

I have an incredible son who is grateful to call me “mommy”. I never knew how amazing that would feel.

I may be feeling a little down today — bitter that I have to share this important birthday with millions of others, but as I sit with this feeling, I understand where it stems from and I’m OK with it. I don’t want to be fixed, just process in peace.

This teaches me that we (as a collective) constantly/habitually envision how we want our lives to look like & when our visions do not come to pass, we feel certain ways about it.

I think part of growing older is accepting what we feel and not apologizing for it when it isn’t pretty or comfortable.

I like that for myself.

I’ll be celebrating my 40th in days to come, I feel it so.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey — new or old. Thank you to all who reached out to me. Thank you to all who love me. Thank you to all who take care of me. Thank you to those who hold a safe space for me.

Thank you to me for being brave, compassionate, kind, funny, challenging, forgiving, driven, loving, passionate, fair, and everything else. 🤍

A little BTS + event footage from yesterday. My first 250 guest event (and it won’t be the last — bet.)

This one challenged me and forced me to step out of my comfort zone. I am in awe of all the work we all managed to do!

Posting this because I don’t think “thank you”, feeding them, hugging them, etc., will ever show them enough appreciation. Yes, it was my idea/concept/execution, but without them, I would have failed. And, for that, I am grateful.

Very special thank you to @casandramusical for recommending me for this event. I will never forget how much you support me in everything I do.

This year’s birthday/father’s day gift was made possible by the one and only @dannyhastings 🤗

Every year, I ask myself “how do I top last year’s gifts?!”

Most of you know Luca’s dad’s passions are hip hop + photography (and Luca). It was serendipitous when I came across Danny’s work on my FYP before Paulo’s bday. But, I couldn’t hit that follow button so I could stay in stealth mode. 🙃

Needless to say, I’m uncertain I’ll be able to top this next year unless I win the lottery and can pay for Paulo to spend a week with some legends in music, photographing them. Doesn’t hurt to dream, right? 😏

Cheers to Danny for being so kind and thoughtful. You clearly have made his year!!!🤍

Reminder: to those of you who struggle co-parenting, take a page from our book. Maintain respect, encouragement of one another and kindness (esp when you wanna catch a charge). 😌

4 hours of makeup; custom bodysuit by @kikimorafashion = cause for having fun & playing (things we forget to tap back into the older we get).

As a Gemini, I am the boss of energy matching. So, having an Aries like spicy Nikita interacting with me and my costume means I will definitely break it down on the ground. 🤪

And, part of my personality is not being intimidated by attention, but using it to my advantage to create moments that cause other people to smile, laugh and have a great time. 🤍

Progress, Practice… then THIS 💃✨

After 16 years, I’m back on “stage” entertaining and proving that REAL latin dances from the Caribbean belong in the SAME category as other styles (and can be just as technically difficult).

I had SO much fun.

Shoutout to my family and partner for showing up, my fellow dance colleagues who cheered & supported me wholeheartedly and the other studio instructors who constructively critiqued + pushed me to be the better version of myself… and Boobiana for guiding me on the back end as I learned to navigate this new-ish part of my life. 🥰

Super duper special shoutout to my beautiful SASHULA & Carlitos for choreographing this routine special for me. 🤍🤍🤍

I have been dancing since before I started walking. Yes, I know we shouldn’t stop to throw a tantrum in the middle of a routine, but I have rage inside me and that bitch does not give a fly.
