✨ Hey everyone, I’m Catherine Woltjen! ✨

I’m currently an EdM in Dance Education candidate at the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, where I’m enrolled in their 5-year program. Over the past two years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to complete internships at Franklin Park Elementary with Danielle Mondi and Franklin High School with Lindsey Della Serra. I’ve observed, learned, and even took the lead in teaching classrooms.

This past summer, I was honored to intern with the Summer Arts Institute under the NYC Department of Education alongside my professor, DeAngelo Blanchard, and other amazing educators.

Prior to pursuing my Master’s, I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, graduating with high honors. During my undergrad, I was inducted into the National Honor Society of Dance Arts, and I served as Vice President. I also performed with University DanceWorks, where I had the chance to dance in pieces choreographed by Kun-Yang Lin and Courtney Henry, and traveled to public schools and colleges to share these works with others.

Before my time at Rutgers, I trained at Talent Unlimited High School in NYC as a Dance major, produced student choreography, and interned with RIOULT Dance Company through Exploring the Arts, where I gained hands-on experience in the field. I also expanded my dance versatility by being a member of a Hip-Hop group, “I am Phresh,” in Philadelphia and performing as a backup dancer for up-and-coming artists like Brandon Jerrord and Keisha.

I’ve been dancing since I was 3 years old, and throughout my life, I’ve been fortunate to train in various styles, from ballet and modern to hip-hop and African dance. My passion for dance has shaped my journey, and now as a dance educator, I’m excited to inspire the next generation of dancers and help them develop a love for this beautiful art form.

Stay tuned for more updates on my journey, dance videos, and creative projects!

✨ Year ✌🏻, let’s dance! ✨

So excited to officially start my second year as a dance educator! And this year, we’re growing in more ways than one… we now have TWO dance spaces! 🩰✨

Our auditorium got a little dance-room makeover with beautiful mirrors and ballet barres, and I couldn’t be more excited to see all the movement, creativity, and growth that will happen in these spaces. 🤍

Here’s to another year of teaching, learning, creating, and growing alongside my students. Let’s make it a good one! 🪩 taken in Manhattan, New York by @dancing.with.catherine

2026 Spring Dance Festival: ICONS🎤🎶

As our Spring Dance Festival comes to a close, so does my very first year as a dance educator with the NYCDOE.

This year has been filled with countless lessons, challenges, growth, and so much joy. Watching my students gain confidence, take creative risks, and find their voices through movement has been the greatest gift. Every performance, rehearsal, and classroom moment has reminded me why I chose this path.

I am incredibly grateful to be part of a school community that values the arts and supports its students and teachers so wholeheartedly. To my administrators, colleagues, families, and students, thank you for your encouragement, collaboration, and belief in the power of dance.

As I reflect on this first year and our final performance of the season, my heart is full. Thank you for making this unforgettable chapter one that I will always cherish. Here’s to celebrating all we accomplished together and looking forward to what next year will bring.

“Take Me Back to Eden”

Showcase SDA 12-14
1st Place Overall in the Showcase 12-14 Large Group category

“Take Me Back to Eden” was more than just a performance for our Premier Team and myself. It was storytelling, vulnerability, trust, and artistry all brought to life on stage. Watching these dancers pour every ounce of emotion into this piece reminded me why I love teaching so deeply.

What makes this performance even more special is seeing how much each of these dancers has grown. Not only technically, but in their confidence, maturity, connection, and ability to truly feel what they perform. The growth this season has been incredible to witness.

Pink goes so well with green, much like this collaboration 💚🩷

So proud to have collaborated with the incredible Ms. Gordon to bring our Broadway Review to life 🎭✨
As a dance teacher in a public school, moments like this remind me how powerful the arts are in building creativity, confidence, and community. Each grade level took on a different musical, allowing our students to explore storytelling through movement and music in such a special way. I am beyond proud of our students for the professionalism they showed throughout this process, balancing learning lyrics and choreography while bringing confidence, passion, and presence to the stage. Endless gratitude for our talented students, supportive school community, and the joy that comes from creating together ❤️
I am also so super proud of our amazing staff who don’t wanna stop the beat! taken in Manhattan, New York by @dancing.with.catherine

Feeling incredibly grateful and proud tonight🤍

Producing and directing my very first dance showcase, our European Extravaganza, was something I once only imagined, and seeing it come to life on stage was surreal. Over the past months I had the privilege of teaching about 500 students and choreographing 30 dances, all designed to fit within our theme. The goal was to show how Europe shares so many cultural influences, interests, and connections that reach across the world and shape the way we experience music, dance, and art.

What made this experience even more meaningful was the sense of community. So many amazing teachers stepped in with support, guidance, creativity, and encouragement throughout the process. This show truly reminded me that education and the arts are built through collaboration and people lifting each other up.

I’m incredibly proud of my students, deeply thankful for the teachers who helped make this possible, and honestly proud of myself for taking the leap to produce and direct my first dance showcase. Watching it all come together was a moment I won’t forget. I’m incredibly grateful to be part of a school community that truly values and celebrates the arts. Having the support to bring creative ideas to life and share the power of dance with hundreds of students is something I never take for granted. When a school recognizes the importance of the arts, it creates space for students to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with culture and creativity in meaningful ways. I feel very lucky to teach in a place that believes in that.

Also, huge shoutout to my amazing staff dancers who absolutely killed it!

Grateful for the journey, the community, and the magic that happens when hundreds of dancers share one stage❤️ taken in Harlem, New York City by @dancing.with.catherine
