Absolutely thrilled!

“On behalf of the board, I am pleased to welcome Kevin with great enthusiasm and appreciation. Kevin is a big fan of Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art with a keen understanding of its mission and purpose. His background in finance and collections perfectly aligns with the Museum’s plans for growth and expansion.” - Diane Felicio, President, Board of Trustees
Kevin Comer joins the board with over thirty years of experience in the finance industry. He is a passionate art collector with a deep commitment to queer and trans artists, and to the Leslie-Lohman Museum, where he has been a member of the Collector’s Circle. Comer is a founding donor of Desert X, a member of the Hammer Circle, and a past trustee of the Palm Springs Art Museum, where he was also a founding donor of the Museum’s Q+ art initiative.
“Through our nearly three decades living in New York City my husband and I have long admired the important work done by Leslie-Lohman and its staff. It is with immense excitement that I look forward to being able to play a small part in the legacy begun by Charles and Fritz when they first began rescuing the important art of the AIDS era being discarded by unaccepting families. I am grateful to be a part of what remains the country’s only museum dedicated exclusively to elevating queer art and artists.” - Kevin Comer

The exhibition is a partnership between CMOA and the Greater Columbus Arts Council, exceptional works from exceptional central Ohio artists, favorite works from my Columbus art tour

great day with the Hammer crew visiting some powerhouse artist and their work: Eamon Ore-Giron, Todd Gray and Analia Saban, Eamon and Todd both have works in the LA Metro stations and Analia was at Sprüth Magers, Analia’s work is the photo after hers, the work she’s standing in front of is Richard Artschwager, and gotta say maybe it’s just the stations we saw but the LA Metro is the best underground I’ve ever seen, thanks to all for their time

at the opening yesterday of the powerhouse Kordansky show Toms Stretch, which in the gallery’s words spans “eighty years by more than seventy artists engaging with Tom of Finland’s radical ability to imagine a physique-and a world-that did not yet exist in popular culture”. This notion is exemplified in this astounding work from Cindy Sherman created in 1992. She actually has three works in the show all equal in jaw dropping power. Scroll for works from Cindy, Jim Shaw, Matthew Barney, Jason Fox, Ken Tisa (incredible), Mike Kelley (who got me started on this journey), Hugh Steers, and many more. Probably most remarkable are some very very early works from Tom from 1944. This is a must visit show. I included a backroom photo of an incredible work from Mario Ayala, and also a work from Moka Lee who opened her first solo with Kordansky last night as well. Thanks for letting me tag along on the walkthrough, much appreciated.

Today we celebrate the American Revolution that freed us from the tyranny of a King. When Boston - and consequently our country - revolted over the continuation of a 3 pence per pound tax on tea, we lived in a world with no income taxes and no sales taxes. When that "shot heard round the world" rang out, it triggered the mobilization of America's Militiamen, who ultimately defeated the Crown and led to the formation of the country we know today. This painting is titled Mexico Por La Libertad from Mexican artist José Bribiesca from 1942. According to the Smithsonian, the image was one of many produced in collaboration with the United States Office of Inter-American Affairs during World War II. They write "This fight against a common totalitarian enemy helped improve diplomatic and commercial ties between the U.S. and Mexico, paving the way for increased migration and trade." Here's to that Revolutionary spirit that led up to 1776 and to our never-ending search for a Free America. by @dancinghighondragonfly

Ethan Primason’s work Rust Melodic has joined our collection and is now in its new home, there’s something very very special about Ethan and his work, I first saw his work at his solo show at Compound Yucca Valley, and then again when he was included in the Joshua Treenial, over several studio visits I developed a deep appreciation for his practice, Rick and I feel very fortunate to be able to live with this work, it’s inevitable that major galleries will come calling for him, I don’t know if that fits into his life plan or not but I do know that he is one very very special artist

a show I seriously wish I could see is Steven Shearer's My Moody Muse at Zwirner in London, utterly captivating, moody indeed, the crutches against the wall, portraits that tell you there's so much going on inside, the palette, completely mesmerized, ah and just saw the Zwirner pride month logo, loving that too

fantastic day with the Hammer team: Commonwealth with the remarkable Young Joon Kwak for their beautiful show along with a powerful film from Mariah Garnett; then a truly remarkable restaging of a show from 1951 at the San Francisco Museum of Art called Dynaton: Convocation of Radiant Beings at Chateau Shatto and curated by Laura Whitcomb who I could listen to forever, and finishing at Zwirner for the 21st Century Version of California Light and Space from Helen Molesworth, so many great works in this show, highlights Rafa Esparza, Noah Davis, Lauren Halsey, Manuel Lopez, Lari Pittman and many more, finished with a shot of the Hollywood sign from an angle I haven’t seen before from Zwirner’s rooftop, first photo is a stunner from Wolfgang Paalen destined for a museum for sure

today I’m remembering that I helped to pay for the murder in Minab, Iran of 168 beautiful little girls and their teachers whose lives were just beginning, while the orders to kill were issued by the current regime, we are all complicit, the horrific photo is by Morteza Akhondi, look at it and never forget it by @dancinghighondragonfly
