We’re so lucky to be part of team Dancensations — a family-friendly and loving studio! 🤍💛💃🕺 taken in Pullman Cairns International by @dancingwiththeturveys

We’ve been a little quiet lately on our dance page because we took some time away from dancing while we were expecting our beautiful baby girl, Anastasia, and then spent her first six weeks soaking up every moment and recovering. 💛

After just a couple of weeks back in the studio, we headed straight to our annual competition in Cairns. To be honest, we surprised ourselves with how much we remembered and what we were able to do after having some time away!

This competition was extra special because it was our first as a family of five. We officially now have four dancers in the family — Tom, Katie, Leo and little Anastasia! 💃🕺👶 (We’re still working on convincing Teddy to join us! 😄)

Cairns is always one of our favourite competitions. It’s such a welcoming, family-friendly event and currently the only DanceSport competition in North Queensland. We’d love to see more competitions in our region one day.

🏆 Our family results:

Tom & Katie
🥇 C Grade New Vogue
🥇 C Grade Standard
🥇 B Grade New Vogue
🥇 B Grade Standard

Leo
🥇 C Grade Standard
🥇 C Grade New Vogue
🥇 C Grade Latin

Leo and his partner Mia danced beautifully all weekend, and we’re so proud of everything they achieved together. Leo also placed 🥇 and 🥈 across his Pro/Student, Lead and Solo events.

A huge thank you to the organisers, adjudicators, volunteers and everyone who made the weekend such a wonderful event. It was so special to be back on the dance floor and sharing our love of dancing together again.

Here’s to many more competitions, memories and milestones with our dancing family! 🤍 taken in Pullman Cairns International by @dancingwiththeturveys

Our weekend dancing! 💃🕺

We had the best time learning from Bec @orchardsstudio and Ross @heidkedance — thank you both for such amazing lessons! So many things to take away and work on. 💛

We also had the chance to compete at the 2025 Dance Odyssey! We enjoyed getting out on the floor and the experience another comp brings.

We’re tired and sore, but ready for more!

It’s definitely nerve-racking stepping into your first Adult Open event, knowing everyone around you is more experienced. But for us, it was never about winning — it was about stepping into the discomfort, challenging ourselves, and growing as dancers. 💛

North Queensland DanceSport Championships last weekend! 💃🕺

We placed:
🥇 Adult C Grade Ballroom
🥇 Adult C Grade New Vogue
🥉 Adult B Grade Ballroom
🥈 Adult B Grade New Vogue
🥉 Adult Open New Vogue

We’re really proud of how we danced and thrilled with our results — especially with it being our first time taking out 1st place in C Grade! Definitely one for the memories.

That said, we know there’s still plenty of work ahead, and we’re back in the studio, hungry to keep growing and improving.

Massive thanks to our incredible coaches @melissawyatt79 and @chrischristensen1979 from @dancensations_townsville — we wouldn’t be where we are without you both!

And thank you @nqdancechamps for such an awesome comp — always a highlight on the calendar! 💛

Our First International Competition! 🌍💃🕺

The 2025 NZ Twin Coast DanceSport Championships marked a special milestone — our first time competing internationally! 🇳🇿

We kept it close to home dancing in beautiful New Zealand during our honeymoon. It’s been such a rewarding journey, and we’re slowly seeing our improvement each time we step on the floor.

We placed:
🥈 Adult C Grade Ballroom
🥈 Adult C Grade New Vogue
4th Adult B Grade Ballroom
🥉 Adult B Grade New Vogue
🥉 Adult Open Grade Ballroom
🥉 Adult Open Grade New Vogue

A massive thank you to our amazing coaches @melissawyatt79 and @chrischristensen1979 from @dancensations_townsville — your guidance, encouragement, and belief in us means the world. We truly wouldn’t be where we are without you.

And of course, thank you @nzfdt for hosting such a welcoming and enjoyable comp! ❤️
