Thanksgiving is a funny thing born out of a messy, complicated history, yet somehow it’s become a day where we get to pause, breathe, and decide what gratitude means to us now. I like that we can take something rooted in so much misfortune and reshape it into our own moment of grace… This summer, Zach and I spent 3.5 months on the road, crossing the country and wandering through national and state parks. I’ve been sitting with how to share it, what photos, what words, how to capture something that felt bigger than all of that. But I’m realizing none of that matters. What matters is the gratitude I have for that time, and how deeply healing it was for me. Until our next adventure!! by @dandaddi

One year ago today, I made the decision to put down the drink, what had been my solution for years, and begin the journey of truly changing my thinking and my life. For as long as I can remember, I hid behind a mask, numbing instead of feeling, using substances as a way to cope with everything I couldn’t face. I didn’t know who I was without that armor. Over this past year, I’ve learned to be honest, with myself and others. I’ve learned how my actions affected the people I love and how to feel emotions instead of running from them. I’ve found new ways to live, to process, to be. I never thought I’d be capable of feeling the peace and clarity I have today, and I owe so much of that to the love and support of my family, friends, and mentors. I’ve learned that healing doesn’t happen in isolation, it takes connection, courage, and asking for help, which can be the hardest but most life-saving step. This is just the beginning, but today, I get to show up as my true self, and for that, I’m deeply grateful. If you’re struggling, please know that you’re not alone there are resources and there is hope. I have so much gratitude, thank you to everyone who has helped me this past year. by @dandaddi
