This St Andrew’s Day we are celebrating the rich and diverse food Scotland grows locally every year. 🌿

Throughout Dandelion we have been encouraging people to Sow, Grow and Share, and today is the perfect opportunity to eat local Scottish produce. Why not raise a glass and share it with those around you?

This was Dandelion 2022!

Since April, over 589,000 people took part in our Sow Grow Share season of events and activities all across Scotland.

From working with our partners to turn unused land into 12 Unexpected Gardens that grew food and hosted over 400 free events in their communities, plus 1 Floating Garden that toured the @scottishcanals Forth and Clyde Canal, to welcoming almost 67,000 people to our Dandelion Festivals in Glasgow and Inverness, and giving away 80,000 free edible plants grown by @srucofficial at our Free for Alls, it’s been a busy year.

Our Cubes of Perpetual Light were seen by 96,000 people on their journey from the island of Heisgeir to the mainland, to schools, as striking installations and on an epic bike tour, to 17 urban and rural locations across Scotland.

Alongside @ksbscotland we worked with 468 schools to help 89,000 school children grow 280,000 tatties using 2,000 tonnes of specially-made growing mix while they learned about the growing and cultural traditions of our past and the technologies of the future. The culmination was the largest-ever creative celebration of Harvest staged across Scotland, with over 500 Dandelion Harvest events bringing communities together for shared meals, ceilidhs, music and more.

It’s been an incredible year. Thank you for coming with us on this journey so far.

Full menus released! What would your town - or street, school, or community - look like on a plate?

Food innovator Simon Preston worked with our network of Unexpected Gardens to explore and develop a menu that truly represents them. #AnythingGrows with Dandelion – Dandelion Harvest

Over the past week we've been looking back on all that went on this growing season. From planting and growing to dancing, cooking, and sharing, we reflect on the last season and look forward to next year!

The culmination of the growing season was Dandelion Harvest where over 500 schools, community groups across Scotland, our Unexpected Gardens, and many individuals came together to all that had been grown over the season, including, food, friendships, and community spirit. The moment was marked with long table feasts, dancing, music, conversation, workshops, and a whole host of original and local traditions.

Thanks for following along with our Dandelion story from Heisgeir to Harvest and now it is time for us all to look forward to the next growing season!

🌿✨ #AnythingGrows with Dandelion – Dandelion Festivals 🌿✨

We started and ended the summer with two major three-day Festival spectaculars of live music, performances, talks, workshops and food in Glasgow and Inverness. Bringing together all the many strands of Dandelion, these festivals were designed to open conversations, provide a space to share, and inspire the public to think about sustainability, the climate emergency and the food crisis in a proactive way, and to respond with collective action. With a soundtrack of live music from artists from across Scotland and the world, our Dandelion Festivals brought people together in a moment Scotland needed.

This week we are looking back on all that has happened this growing season. From planting and growing to dancing, cooking, and sharing, we reflect on the last season and look forward to next year!

🌿💡 #AnythingGrows with Dandelion – Cubes of Perpetual Light 🌿💡

Our Cubes of Perpetual Light; part artwork, part laboratory and part vertical farms, have been all across the country this year. The cubes have been taken to schools, Unexpected Gardens, and became central to our Dandelion Festivals as part of a dramatic, living stage. Installations were created from them and they travelled Scotland on an epic bike tour reaching some of the most remote and highly populated places in the country. The Grow Cubes have been central to Dandelion and this innovative way of growing has been able to start conversations across the country.

This week we are we are looking back on all that has happened this growing season. From planting and growing to dancing, cooking, and sharing, we reflect on the last season and look forward to next year!

#AnythingGrows with Dandelion – Unexpected Gardens

This week we are we are looking back on all that has happened this growing season. From planting and growing to dancing, cooking, and sharing, we reflect on the last season and look forward to next year!

Plants and food have been growing and flourishing in the most unlikely of places since the beginning of the season. With 13 Unexpected Gardens springing up all around the country including one floating garden, Dandelion, and our many partner organisations, have been able to spread the message to Sow, Grow and Share. Through a wide-ranging, and place-focused programme of events supported by an emerging creative producer and musicians in residence, these unused bits of land have become safe, beautiful, and open spaces for their local communities. All these activities were undertaken, leading up to Harvest celebrations throughout September, sharing food, music, conversation, thoughts and ideas.

Thank you to all of our partners!

#AnythingGrows with Dandelion – Schools

Young people and schools across the country have spent this year growing tatties, experimenting with their very own Grow Cubes and learning about the traditions and history of growing in Scotland. Dandelion sent over 1,500 tonnes of special growing medium to 468 schools for young people to take home and grow their potatoes in, everything from pots and pans to window boxes and bags for life. We loved seeing all the pictures of everything that had been going on especially when it all came together for hundreds of school harvest celebrations in September!

This week we are we are looking back on all that has happened this growing season. From planting and growing to dancing, cooking, and sharing, we reflect on the last season and look forward to next year!

🌿 #AnythingGrows with Dandelion – Free for Alls 🌿

After leaving Heisgeir, we travelled to eleven towns and cities around Scotland, holding Free for Alls; our mini-festivals of growing. With everything from music to advice on how to get started, we began the season inspiring people to have a grow! We gave away thousands of free plants and began our Dandelion journey as small seeds that would soon flourish into food to share.
