I suppose the change in season is as good a time as any to share that my dad died this summer. My family and I spent much of the past year in hospitals and hauling across the state to access care, and along the way there was a lot of pain and suffering and frustration. Lots of love though, too.
I guess I’m finally sharing now - 5+ weeks after his death - because I want you to know. I want you to know that I’m still as sad as I’ve ever been, but that I’m doing okay. I want you to know that I am well supported and well loved, and that I might still just need to be alone and cry sometimes.
And if you already know all this, I want you to know I cannot imagine going through this kind of grief without the love and support you’ve shared. What a fucking gorgeous, loving community we’ve got✨❤️✨ by @danderander

A little bit about our performers!

Dean Johnson's debut album 'Nothing for Me, Please' was recorded at Mashed Potato Records in New Orleans with the help of Sam Gelband and Charlie Meyer, Dean’s bandmates in The Sons of Rainier; as well as Mashed Potato regulars Sam Doores, Duff Thompson and Steph Green. The record is a hazy, relaxed daydream – anthems for those who know the sweetness and coldness of quiet moments, the power and the pain of love. Whether you’ve been waiting patiently these many for Dean to release these songs, or you’re just now coming across his work for the first time, the name Dean Johnson, much like his songs, won’t soon leave your mind.
Northwest Washington's Devin Champlin writes songs for gettin' along, sometimes with his band Sons of Rainier, sometimes on his ownsome. He likes to fingerpick the guitar, grease the fiddle, and thump on the piano, all while singing about dreams of breakfast, and existentialism.
At the junction of folk, pop, and country you’ll find Junior, a compact three-piece from Montana helmed by songwriters Caroline Keys, Hermina Jean, and Jenny Lynn. Couched in unexpected harmonies, Junior’s songs portray stories of women situated in an unsentimental western landscape. The band got together in 2019 with the goal of touring and traveling, so each person takes on more than one instrument to keep the touring load light.
Annie Bartholomew is an Alaskan songwriter, clawhammer banjo player, and folk singer from Juneau. Her 2023 debut album Sisters of White Chapel was inspired by historic narratives of Victorian women and sexworkers who came north during the Klondike Gold Rush in Alaska and the Yukon Territory. Annie is playing with her Anchorage friends Nichole Campanale on fiddle and guitarist Chris Bieri.
The Best Westerns have been playing original, quirky, and danceable country music in Montana for almost 15 years, entertaining crowds of all stripes with their fun, rough-around-the-edges live shows in backyards, barns and on proscenium stages.
