2/30 COUNTDOWN TO HALLOWEEN

Vintage 2 sided ALIENS t shirt, single stitch, made in USA, 1988- 1990

Top Five. An all time favorite. One of the greatest tees EVER.

Long story incoming:

On September 23, 1994 I saw Boingo ( no Oingo) at The Cabaret Metro in Chicago.

At some point during the show I took off my prized two sided ALIENS shirt (mail ordered from the back of a Dark Horse Comic in 8th grade) and threw it to Danny Elfman. No idea what he did with it but I almost instantly regretted the decision.

I LOVED that shirt. We will come back to this in a minute.

Fast forward to 2017/ 2018ish? I walk into a party in @pennetti and @elisajoie backyard and sitting at a table is a fellow named Todd.

And he is wearing THE shirt.

Well, my visceral reaction was so strong, so sudden, I had to explain myself. After retelling the Boingo story Todd stood up, took off the shirt, and handed it to me.

"This is yours."

Thank you sir. I still treasure it. And I've seen the comps. This has become a VERY valuable shirt.

EPILOGUE: Back in '94 after the Boingo show at Metro a crowd formed outside waiting to meet Mr. Elfman.

Not being an autograph guy I hung back by the curb.

After signing some CDs and sharing a few hugs Danny wandered over to the curb to hail a cab.

For a brief moment I thought about asking him about the tee I threw.

Instead I thanked him for scoring 1989s Batman and reached into my pocket, pulled out a quarter, and handed it to him.

"Is this my tip?" he asks.

I shrug, unsure what to say.

He thanked me and then in a perfect Jack Skellington voice he exclaims:

"It's been a profitable evening after all!"

...before dipping into a taxi and driving off.

Still never found out what happened to my shirt.

But I have zero regrets. by @dandywarholia

1/30 COUNTDOWN TO HALLOWEEN

"BURRR WINNNN!"

Tonight we take Berwyn.

Tomorrow? The world.

In a few hours my castmates and I will stand on the stage of Berwyn's second most important cultural institution: @fitzgeraldsnightclub

The first being Svengoolie. If you know ya know.

We have been doing this show @thespectralsilhouette for five years now and it just keeps getting better.

And we didn't even need rubber chickens.

This shirt actually comes from our creator, writer, bandleader, and all around creative whirlygig Henry Scherrer

Thanks for this, brother.

Not the shirt. All of this. Being involved in this show has been a gift.

I really enjoyed doing the Batman T shirt project last fall so I've come up with something new:

30 days of spooky, silly, creepy, Halloween or Halloween adjacent T shirts.

Some days the connection might seem to be a stretch but hey, my project my shirts my call.

Enjoy! by @dandywarholia

2 more sleeps...

Still find it surreal that my face is on a t shirt (...and a can of beer).

So it really seems like a waking dream that we will be taking the stage at the historic @fitzgeraldsnightclub in two nights for a sold out show of @thespectralsilhouette.

I can not wait.

(Let's try this again)

Vtg TEXAS Boot Co Pee Wee cowboy boots with Butterfly inlays. Nearly deadstock, unworn, and minty

Vs.

Vtg SEARS cowboy boots with Thunderbird inlays. Well worn and toasty.

Both boots are Made in the USA, both have identical toe shapes and toe bugs, and both boots were made sometime between the late 1950s and early 70s. Although the Butterflys are close to perfect condition the shorter shaft, heel shape, and cloth pull tabs indicate these are older.

And while the Sears boots have a leather sole, the Butterflys have a synthetic one. Both boots have the same rubber heel caps.

The leather on both feels the same, kinda thin, likely a split leather utilizing the top grain. These were never meant to be work boots but rather they were made for fashion; the result of Hollywood and the public's ongoing mid century obsession with the Western and western wear.

Since it is believed TEXAS Boot co made the boots for SEARS it is likely these boots were manufactured by the same folks on the same lasts in the same factory.

Really fascinating to see the evolution of wear on such a unique boot. by @dandywarholia

Did Instagram really just delete a massive wall of text and a dozen photos I just spent too much time writing and editing?

Yes. Yes it did.

Fuck this technological hell scape we have found ourselves in.

Everything works worse than it used to. AI slop everywhere. Bot accounts, insincere influencers and trolls outnumber geniune humans looking for connection or comraderie.

Just pull the fucking plug already and start over.

Vintage Made in USA TEXAS Boot Co. Pee Wee Cowboy boots with Butterfly Inlays, cloth pulls, and an unusual amount of man made components.

The sole, insole, and possibly even most of the shaft seem to be synthetic.

The heels are mint, the soles are close to perfect, but there are still some random scratches and dents. Some threads on the outseam were broken and coming loose but the boots appear to be completely unworn.

The inside seems to read: Split Leather Leg, Man Made Insole, Leg Lining, and Heel Pad so who knows?

The style screams 1950s but the sythentic parts seem to imply something a bit newer.

Not sure yet if I will keep them, wear them, or sell them.

Weird Vintage Florsheim "Designer Series" Western boots with cut outs and side zips.

Leather is pretty supple but very very thin and the soles are merely cemented with zero stitching and no welt. Cool design but a sad exemplar of how far Florsheim has fallen.

And of course that cement was failing so I picked up some knock off Barges and fixed them ( last shot ) by @dandywarholia
