It is always so much fun for me when someone asks me about this band we all love. I will sit in a hotel lobby just to talk about that “Wolfman’s” from night one. I adore you all. Meeting you is a great big fat deal for me. I live in a small town on the St. Lawrence River in Northern New York. Phans are scarce.

I met @danehenshall at her hotel in Midtown on the last day of the @phish New Year’s run @thegarden . I was thinking about starting this page and doing a bit of research when Dane asked me if I was “going tonight?” I told her, “ I am and we began talking about last night’s show. Dane was waiting on coffee when we began to talk. Our conversation shifted to her recent health scare and I quickly learned that she had just recently completed a successful round of chemotherapy at Georgetown University Hospital near her home. She rained praises upon her experiences at Georgetown and detailed to me a pretty great resulting prognosis for her future. When Dane’s coffee came we parted ways so that she could deliver to her family.

Her story;

“I was seeing nights 2 and 3 with my two college-aged daughters, my sister, brother-in law, and nephew who were also staying with my youngest for NYE. I was bummed but when we planned our trip I was still going through chemo so I was not sure how I would be feeling so I tried to be realistic. After the show on night 3, I looked at staying, but logistics didn’t look promising. Fate had other plans. I woke on New Years Eve and my train had been canceled so I was able to reschedule with no penalty and then the hotel let me book a room with points. I found tickets for face through my nephew’s friend and all else was up to the boys for a great show.”

“I saw my first show in 1990 with my sister, Anna, at a small bar in Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Solomon’s 10/20/90 no known fan recordings!) and have been a phan ever since. Friends, I want to share some personal news as I have not been able to tell many directly. Earlier this summer, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I’m undergoing treatment at Georgetown’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center under the care of Dr. Roswarski, and thanks to rigid chemo and new immunotherapy options, my doctors are very optimistic. I’m now halfway through treatment and feeling good about the road ahead.

This isn’t how I expected my federal retirement to begin, but I see it as a detour, not a derailment. I’m confident in this process, grateful for cutting-edge medicine, and strengthened by the support of family and friends.
