@danelle.live joined after making a big decision. After being laid off, she chose to turn her side hustle into a full-time business. She knew she couldn’t build it alone.

I wish someone had built this room for me.

When I was in corporate, every day looked fine. I got up. Went through the motions. I did not even feel dread. I just felt paralyzed. Numb. And no one knew that.

I never admitted something was wrong because I didn’t realize it. I just kept going until the job was gone. Four months later, when I finally had space, the fog lifted enough for me to start designing my life on my own terms.

Nobody ever told me that perfectionism, overthinking, and not feeling safe were quietly building toward that feeling. I just thought something was wrong with me.

So Tesha @wellnessafterdark and I built Exhale and Rise.

We invited women leaders, executives, and business owners into a room to have the conversation nobody was having. What we silently gave up to keep performing at the level everyone expected of us.

When the women in that room started sharing, it became a signal to everyone else.

You are not alone in this experience.

My hope is that fewer women end up where I ended up. That someone shows them earlier that they can design their work life differently. Before the fog. Before the loss.

That is what this room was for.

We aren’t listening to our intuition. We’re too busy trying to please and that’s keeping us stuck.

Two of my favorite people were having a conversation at my coworking space recently (yes I was ear hustling)

One is building something amazing and she has identified a major problem, it’s connected to something she’s deeply passionate about, and she’s trying to figure out her next move.

She talked through creating a resource guide for her ideal client. I requested permission to ask a question...I asked do you know if that’s what they actually want?

She said she didn’t know. And honestly she didn’t sound excited to create it.
I said it’s important to do the market research to understand your client, but in the meantime, what do YOU want to create?

She lit up talking about a very specific article she’s been wanting to write.
I said then create that and see where it leads. That is what is inside of you. And that is what the world needs to see.

We spend so much energy trying to figure out what someone wants from us.

But people want whatever we create in only the unique way we can create it.

Every time you silence your thought in a meeting. Pause on that business idea because you aren’t sure of what the reaction will be. Ruminate on creating something you aren’t that excited about in the first place...you’re robbing the world of your magic.

Trust what’s inside you.

This week I led my first Build Before You Burnout workshop at @thelola_women, and every woman in the room left with a clearer picture of what she is building outside of her 9 to 5, what makes her uniquely qualified to build it, and the next step to gain momentum.

I created Build Before Burnout for the woman with the resume, and the quietly loud question, what comes next.

She’s good at what she does but cannot figure out how to make it into something outside of a job.

I was asked in coaching, “What’s my highest hope for the women I work with?”

It’s simple and big at the same time: being able to make a clear choice about what you truly want to do next — and be very well paid for it.

Becoming a mom in the middle of the pandemic forced me to make career decisions based on my values instead of the default ladder laid out in front of me.

Sometimes the clarity you’re searching for in work begins with the space you create for yourself in community.

Sometimes you don’t realize how much you’ve been carrying until you’re given space to set it down. At last Saturday’s event we breathed, we reflected and reminded ourselves what really matters before the season shifts.

What made it powerful wasn’t just the sound bath, the coaching, or the intentions we set…it was the way community aids in healing we didn’t even know we needed.
