20 years ago today on February 17th, 2006 I dropped out of music college in Boston, MA and moved across the country to join a band. They were called A Static Lullaby and they were the first real professional touring act I’d ever played with. My first show was opening for Thrice in Los Angeles. My first recording session was at Sound City in Los Angeles.

Over the past 20 years I’ve been lucky enough to support myself and my family entirely by playing music. I guess you could say I’ve never “worked” a single day since February 17th, 2006. It’s always been, and will always be my dream job. Thank you to my wife, all my bandmates, my friends, my family, and everyone else along the way who has helped make that dream my reality.

How do you capture 20 years in only 20 photos? It’s quite literally impossible, but here are a few brief, fleeting moments I’ve spent during the past 7,300 days playing music with my friends. by @danepoppin

Ten weeks on the road since August. Fourteen countries visited. Forty five shows performed. Sixty eight hours spent onstage. One album.

Thank you to the crew for making these shows happen. Thank you to the fans for spending your hard-earned money on the the tickets. Thank you to the band’s team for their direction. Thank you to my amazing wife for solo parenting our family while I’ve been gone. Thank you to The Fray for creating this record 20 years ago.

Just a dude and his two Pino Palladino signature basses.

Obviously I’m a fan of the guy (because I have ears), but I never really set out to own both his instruments specifically. I acquired the Fender on the advice of some serious vintage collectors. According to them, the custom shop Pino is the closest thing you can get to a pre-CBS original without paying the ridiculous post-covid market prices.

I picked up the Stingray because I’ve always wanted to own a vintage spec Music Man with a rosewood fretboard, string mutes and 2-band preamp. Lo and behold, it was Pino to the rescue again.

Without boring y’all with further details, both basses are COMPLETELY different and unique in their own ways, yet they remain some of the finest instruments I’ve ever played. I guess the moral of the story is that if Pino puts his name on a product - you better buy that shit. by @danepoppin

For your consideration, a Music Man Pino Palladino signature Stingray bass fresh off the @ernieball @music_man workshop floor. They replicated this instrument after Pino’s original 1979, all the way down to the mute pads, brass saddles and vintage preamp circuit.

I’ve been eyeing this bad boy ever since they announced it back in July, and it’s here just in time for The Fray’s upcoming HTSAL20 Europe/Australia run! Massive shout out to @timstuff123 for the unwavering support, and to @pino_palladino_official_ for the constant inspiration. by @danepoppin
