Happy birthday @muelleroutdoors! No words could ever say enough about how much your friendship means. When my accident happened almost a year ago you let me recover in the clubhouse at the ranch. It saved me! I learned so much and you and the family made recovery possible and enjoyable. I can never thank you enough. Cheers to memories made and the many memories ahead! #dancingcowboy #whiskeyranch by @danfoil1

Shout out to my buddy Tony Bowen. My pasture went to crap after my injury. While I was hurt Tony and John Haas came over and mowed for me and helped me start putting things back together. Yesterday Tony came over and seeded my main pasture and one of my smaller pastures for me so hopefully I can get them back in shape. Just in time for the rain! Thanks Tony!!! I have the most amazing friends that have helped me in so many ways! I am truly blessed! by @danfoil1

Just seven months ago, I was living at @whiskeyranchhorses in a wheelchair, wondering what walking was going to look like again.

This weekend I was back here dancing in front of a live band. @drewsix

That’s a sentence I don’t take for granted.

My buddy @muelleroutdoors generously gave me a place to recover when I couldn’t walk, and Whiskey Ranch became a pretty important part of this whole story.

So getting to come back for the annual Whiskey Ranch Throw Down — on my own two feet — and dance again felt a little different this year.

There are still days my feet hurt like hell. There’s still work to do.

But sometimes you need to stop looking at how far you still have to go and look back at how dang far you’ve already come.

And apparently… I still have a little dance left in these feet. 🤠#dancingcowboy #whiskeyranch by @danfoil1

Had such a great time at @vitapopsoda_usa for their US launch party! I had a chance to dance with @pitbull dancers! They are the nicest, hardest working, young ladies! I know what you are thinking. Get out of the way Dan! We can’t see the real dancers!! Well then go see them at the pitbull concert tonight!! And go snag some Vitapop soda! It is amazing! #dancingcowboy #vitapopsoda_usa #pitbull by @danfoil1

Could I have asked for help? Sure. But apparently I’m still stubborn……. After a full day of work and dinner with friends, I picked up 50 bales of hay and decided I was going to unload and stack them myself.

For some people, 50 bales probably isn’t much. But a few months ago I was learning how to walk again.

Stepping across pallets carrying hay and stacking bales way over my head isn’t exactly easy for me yet. Then I had to restack the old hay on top of the new.

I’m not saying I worked that hard.

I think I worked as hard as I could.

There’s a difference.

And dang, it felt good.

There’s something about looking at hay stacked in the barn that feels good when you have animals depending on you. It’s not just hay. It’s knowing they’re taken care of.

Could I have gotten somebody to help me? Absolutely.

I just wanted to know I could do it myself.

Of course, “I can do it myself” + Christmas lights is pretty much what got me into this mess in the first place… so apparently I haven’t learned everything. 😂

Fortunately, Hope the barn cat was there to handle management.

50 bales in the barn. One more little piece of normal back.
