There are simply no words that could ever fully express the gratitude our family feels.

On behalf of my mother, my siblings, my niece and nephew, my brother in law and our entire family, thank you for surrounding us with so much love as we celebrated the life of my beautiful sister.

Thank you for every prayer, phone call, text message, visit, hug, card, floral arrangement, meal, donation, and every act of kindness shown to us. Your love carried us through moments when we didn’t have the strength to carry ourselves.

A special thank you to everyone who embraced my niece and nephew with such compassion as they navigate the unimaginable loss of their mother. The love you’ve poured into them means more than you’ll ever know. Thank you also for loving on my mother as she grieves the loss of her daughter, my brother in law as he remembers the love of his life, and for supporting my siblings and me through one of the most difficult seasons of our lives.

I also want to give an extra special shout-out to my village, my best friends, my chosen sisters, my Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® sisters, my “Pers,” the LOML, and every friend who has loved us so intentionally throughout this journey. You checked in when I didn’t have the words. You showed up without being asked. You prayed, cried, laughed, served, and carried pieces of this burden with me. Your loyalty, presence, and unwavering love have reminded me that family is not only who you’re born to, it is also who God places beside you.

While we may never be able to thank each of you individually, please know that every expression of kindness has touched our hearts and will never be forgotten.

Thank you for loving my sister. Thank you for loving our family. And thank you for helping us honor Shawnya’s beautiful life in such a meaningful way. by @dangmsc
