#Ukrainiandronestrikes have targeted and severely damaged three major data centers operated by #Yandex (often called “Russia’s Google”) in retaliation for Russian strikes on Ukrainian data infrastructure.

Targeted Yandex Facilities

• #SasovoDataCenter (Ryazan region): Struck on October 8, 2026, forcing a full operational shutdown and causing a fire. The facility reportedly housed two of Yandex’s three main AI supercomputers.
• Kaluga Data Center (southwest of Moscow): Struck on October 9, 2026, disabling part of the hardware infrastructure.
• Vladimir Data Center (east of Moscow): Struck on October 11, 2026, causing operations to be completely suspended and knocking remaining platform resources offline.

Impact and Disruption

• Digital Outages: The strikes triggered widespread disruptions across Russia, affecting ride-hailing services like Yandex Taxi, navigation and maps, banking services, e-commerce sites, mobile operators (such as MegaFon), Russian Railways (RZhD), and the AI assistant YandexGPT / Alisa.
• Bot Activity: Online activity supporting political groups, such as the German party AfD and Russian state bot networks, saw sharp drops following the server infrastructure outages.
• Context: The campaign follows earlier Russian missile and drone attacks in late September 2026 that hit at least six Ukrainian data centers and telecom providers (including Kyivstar, Ukrtelecom, MiroHost, and Parkovy), leaving thousands of households offline.
