miss lizzy bennet, my greatest challenge as an actor to date.

i’d never had a role like this; straight play, onstage for every scene, hundreds of lines, an undeniable lead in an undeniably iconic classic story. i wanted to do her justice and i’d be lying if i said that i had faith that i could, but i was lucky enough to have a director and be a part of a cast who had faith for me. being pushed outside of my comfort zone was… uncomfortable. but i did it! and i know i’ll become a better performer for it.

i’m so thankful for the experience of this show. what a privilege to get to tell this story with such wonderful people. i’ll miss you, miss lizzy🤍 by @danicahaskell

hi! i’m dani and i’m a freelance choreographer and dancer based in northern maine. i wanted to create a space where i could share some of my work as a portfolio of sorts, so here we are! i’ll start by sharing a little bit about me:

- i was a student at The Maine Dance Academy for 12 years, which is where i found my passion! i took all styles of dance and learned so much.
- i was an instructor and choreographer at The Maine Dance Academy while i was a student and for a few years after i graduated. i never thought i was one for choreographing, but i was asked to choreograph my second year of instructing and i haven’t looked back. as much as i love performing there’s just something so magical about seeing other people bring to life what you created. that is when i decided i wanted to pursue this professionally.
- ballet and contemporary are my favorite styles. i have love for every style of dance, but these are my favorites for many reasons. i love the rules that have to be followed in ballet and i love the lack of rules in contemporary. they’re like two sides of the same coin, yin and yang.
- dance has been a really positive coping mechanism for me. i’ve used it as a way to express emotions that are hard to put into words.
- i’ve choreographed several full productions, a couple of which i’ve performed in as well. i also do self-choreographed solos and choreograph solos for competitions.
- i’m a firm believer that anyone can dance. i’ve choreographed several high school musicals and community theatre productions with folks who had never danced a day in their lives, but, between hard work and not giving up, they danced! everyone has their niche, it’s just a matter of finding it.
- i sing and act as well! i love theatre and i love performing. i’m undoubtedly a dancer first, but anything that allows me to be on stage or work with people on stage? sign me up!
