Today is Greg’s birthday. And his story is out in the world. 💫

Not just the story of Shock G or Digital Underground, but Greg. The brilliant, funny, complicated, loving, endlessly creative and curious soul so many of us were lucky enough to know and love.

Reading just the first 43 pages of KEEP IT BEAUTIFUL the way his words came to life from the pages felt like having a conversation with him again. Knowing that people who never had the chance to know him can open these pages and actually get a sense of what it was like to experience him is everything. 💜

And then there’s Lex. @alexiswolfephotography somehow took all of that love, history, complexity and magic and gave it back to us in the most beautiful way. What a gift. Thank you. 🥹

Happy Birthday, Gregory. You’re literally over the moon out there in the universe knowing the book you envisioned for so long is here and I know you’re so proud. I love you always. 💜 by @danicarat

COMMUNITY IS THE TOWN EXPERIENCE 📍

This weekend, we got to witness what it looks like when Oakland shows up for Oakland.

Shout out to @eastoaklandcollective and the @digitalundergroundofficial family for bringing back the 6th Annual Feed the Hood Community Meal and continuing to honor the legacy of the one and only Shock G through service, love and giving back. 🫶🏾

From meals and essential supplies to music, familiar faces and neighbors simply showing up for one another, this was bigger than a giveaway. It was a reminder that taking care of community is part of Oakland’s culture.

Shout out to everyone who came through, volunteered, donated and helped make the day happen, including @lateefahforcongress, @thatgirlmystic, @moneyb69, @danicarat @mayorbarbaralee and @kevin_jenkins510

We always highlight the events, the food, the culture and all the reasons to get outside... but THIS is a Town Experience too.

Oakland taking care of Oakland. 💜💜

RIP @therealshockg 🕊
RIP @cleetismack 🕊

Even in the middle of loss, Philly gave us moments to smile, laugh, breathe, and just be together. 💜 Grateful for du family, memories, and the love carrying us through while celebrating Clee and laying him to rest in his hometown. He would’ve loved that we were out in Philly together… laughing, wandering, telling stories, and finding little moments of joy through it all. #cleeforever taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @danicarat

“You always have me.” 💜🕊️
That’s who he was - steady, calm, present.
He had all of us and I hope he knew we had him too.
Rest easy, Clee. Love you forever. by @danicarat

There’s so much to say about yesterday.

Frank H. Ogawa Plaza is where I produced my first event in Oakland with OVM nearly six years ago, so standing there yesterday, producing a citywide celebration for Alysa Liu, felt especially full circle. Thank you @visitoakland @mayorbarbaralee @fab5era @sf_hunter for trusting us to bring your vision to life for @alysaxliu

It’s deeply meaningful to me to have been entrusted to lead @oaklandvm by Andrew and @stevesnider23 and looking around now at where our shared journey has led. From that first event to this scale of civic production, I couldn’t help but reflect on how far we’ve come and how much has been built along the way. I can’t wait to see what we do next.

What most people don’t see is what it takes to build an event of this size and scope on a 12-day runway: long days, constant moving pieces, full infrastructure install the day before, fencing, restrooms, entry systems, sound, staging, hospitality, artist flow, city coordination, signage, staffing, safety planning, and hundreds of details that have to come together so the public experiences one seamless moment.

That’s the work. And none of it happens alone.

So deeply appreciative of my team, every partner, every vendor, every person who carried pieces of this with care and urgency. Oakland showed up beautifully, and I’m proud of what we built together. ✨🖤💛 taken in Oakland, California by @danicarat
