To celebrate reaching 200 followers, I figured it was time that you all got to know me a bit better!!

I’ve compiled a few slides (12 lol) of various bookish and non-bookish facts about me, which I hope paints a picture of the boy behind this Bookstagram!

I haven’t told you my favourite author or favourite book, as that’ll have a dedicated post sometime in the near future……

It’s so nice to meet you all, and thank you once again for choosing to follow me 🫶🏼 I hope these facts don’t make you reconsider lol

I’ve been receiving a lot of DM’s from authors since day one of this page, asking if I would read and review their book… Whilst I’m honoured and flattered you asked me, my answer is unfortunately always a no.

I understand why you need beta readers and why you might ask, but it’s just not something I’m particularly interested in.

This post is simply just to explain my reasons why, in the hopes that authors see this on my profile (it will be pinned) and read it before messaging me!

Much love to all you indie authors out there needing beta readers - you’re doing amazing sweetie, yassss go queen, slayyyy, and all that - but my TBR is big enough as it is, and my time for reading all of it is already very limited! I also don’t want my hobby to turn into a job with deadlines and schedules etc!

I am however happy to share your book on my story to my followers, but as for reading it and reviewing it within a certain time frame? No thank you!

Hope you understand, but if not, tough 🫶🏼 by @daniel.is.reading

Whilst I tackle the final stretch of my current read and prepare a book review for you, I thought I’d tell you all about the…

THINGS YOU WON’T SEE ON MY BOOKSTAGRAM!

I’ve probably missed some things but you get the vibe, right?! 😅

Are there any here you agree with?!

(Not me telling you there will be zero matchy matchy aesthetic, yet going out of my way to completely make sure every slide matches 🤦🏻‍♂️)

FLATLAY FRIDAY

Hey everyone, I hope you’re all having a fabulous Friday! The weekend is upon us, what are your plans?!

Today I bring you a little flatlay of thriller books sitting patiently on my TBR, however there’s something else all of these books have in common… I bought them all because I liked the cover 👀

I’m sorry but anyone who says they don’t judge a book by its cover is an absolute liar - you do, I do, we all do, just accept it 😂

I know pretty much fuck all about any of these books besides the fact they’re all thrillers with nice covers, but I can’t wait to dive into them all someday in my lifetime 😅

Questions of the day:
📚 Have you read any of these books? No spoilers please!
📚 Any here you think I should make a priority read?
📚 What are your plans for the weekend?

BOOK REVIEW

Whistle - Linwood Barclay

Annie Blunt and her young son Charlie moved to their house in upstate New York to put a dreadful year behind them. The death of her husband and a scandal around one of her children’s books left them both needing a fresh start. But things aren’t as peaceful as Annie hoped... Strange sounds wake her in the middle of the night. There’s something sinister about the toy train Charlie discovers in a locked shed in the grounds. And then bizarre things start happening in the neighbourhood. Grief can play tricks on the mind, but Annie is beginning to realise she’s walked out of one nightmare and straight into another...

Now, I’ve had this book in my Amazon wishlist for ages, but decided to finally get my copy from Asda a few weeks ago and I started it that very evening! I’m so glad I finally got it and gave it a go, as I loved this!!

I was hooked right from the very start and instantly fell in love with Linwood’s writing style - the way he describes everything made it so easy to visualise the characters, the surroundings, and the situations! It felt very atmospheric and really vivid in my imagination!

The characters were all brilliant, but I especially love the fact Annie is an author! There’s even a character called Daniel 🙌🏼

There are multiple points of view in this across two different timelines, but they both work brilliantly. I thought the pacing was great and I loved the fact there were “parts” to this book that allowed you to switch between timelines seamlessly.

Whilst this book is technically horror, it’s not at all scary, but it is a tense thriller with some creepy elements. The toy train set actually reminds me of the movie The Monkey!

Speaking of movies, I think this would make for a brilliant movie and I would love to see it happen someday!

Overall, I thought this book was fantastic, but the ending slightly let it down for me. Whilst I could believe most of this book (despite the supernatural elements), the ending felt so farfetched and rushed for me personally, which is why it’s not a 5 star read. But I did really thoroughly enjoy it and would happily recommend - especially at this time of year!

BOOK SPOTLIGHT

I don’t feel like a true Bookstagrammer without giving a dedicated post to this book!

The Silent Patient - Alex Michaelides

I was gifted a copy of this for Christmas a couple of years ago by my friend @bookmarkedbymark, and I have to say, I absolutely devoured it!! I was hooked right from the start and was desperate to find out why Alicia wasn’t speaking a word!

I’m not going to spoil anything here, but what I will say is, the twist in this book had me shooketh to the core, mindblown to Mars, and in such a state of surprise I felt like if the wind blew, my face would’ve remained in a permanent state of 😯!! Even now, almost 2 years after reading it, I’m still in awe of how bloody good that was!

If you haven’t read this one, I implore you to do so! It can be a divisive book though as I’ve seen many people not like it (which is fine and fair enough, we aren’t all meant to like the same things after all!), and it is quite a slow burn but when that twist comes it’s all worth it!

I loved this book so much!

BOOK HAUL

Hands up if you love a good Waterstones book mail delivery?! 🙋🏻‍♂️

Today I got home from (a boring as fuck day at) work, to not one, not two, but three deliveries from Waterstones!

📚 The Witch - Freida McFadden
Of course I had to get the sprayed edge exclusive edition, even though I could’ve got a copy from The Works or Amazon for a bit cheaper 😂 but those spredges were calling for me!

📚 The Midmorning Murders - Julian Clary
I know absolutely fuck all about this book, but I do love Julian Clary (and have met him 3x 😎) so had to get a signed copy of his latest novel! Based on the title and front cover alone, I’m going to assume it’s centred around daytime TV hosts being murdered? If so, I’ve got a few names to suggest…👀🫢🤫

📚 The Queerest of Folk - Russell T Davies
As a big fan of Russell’s TV shows It’s A Sin, Banana/Cucumber, Tip Toe, and Queer As Folk, I had to get a signed copy of his autobiography. I especially want to know if he talks about how he royally fucked up the latest era of Doctor Who to a point where the show is now on a hiatus, but I’m going to guess he might leave that part out! But looking forward to reading this at some point during my lifetime 😂

Any of these books tickle your fancy?!
(I said FANCY, get your minds out the gutters 😂)

Decided to treat myself to a couple of books from Asda today as its Friday, it’s pay day, and I survived another week at work 🎉

Both of these were in the 2 for £9.00 deal and are books I’ve been eyeing up for a long time!!

📚 Whistle - Linwood Barclay
📚 The Opposite Of Murder - Sophie Hannah

I know precisely fuck all about either of these, except for the fact Whistle is a horror book (perfect for October 😁) and that @tylerssbooks didn’t particularly like The Opposite Of Murder and recommended I pass on it, but I’m a sucker for giving a pretty cover a go 😂

Looking forward to checking both of these out, and as always, I’ll post reviews once read!!

Happy Friday everyone 🫶🏼

BOOK REVIEW

Saving Noah - Lucinda Berry

A mother’s love is supposed to be unconditional. Isn’t it? Meet Noah: a top student, a champion swimmer, a home-town hero. His loving mother, Adrianne, couldn’t be prouder of the man her son is becoming. Until Noah confesses to a horrific crime. Can she stand by a son who’s done unspeakable things? Or will saving him mean sacrificing herself?

First off, massive thank you to @bookadoringextralargemedium for kindly gifting me my copy - very much appreciated Lisa 🫶🏼

Right, where to begin with this review?! I had no preconceived ideas before going into this book, I had no idea what it was about (I just liked the cover 😂), and I’m so glad this was the case, because it allowed me to experience it naturally and form an unbiased opinion.

This book is a very tough one! There’s some very dark themes in this (I won’t say what, but if you’ve read it, you know), and because of that, it comes with major trigger warnings so be mindful of that if you’ve not read it yet. The topic discussed, particularly Noah’s crime, is a disturbing horrific one and it was very difficult to read about! But I believe this crime in particular was very necessary to the story, as it does put you in Adrianne’s shoes - could you forgive and continue to love your child unconditionally after he has committed such a heinous act?

Personally, I’m not really sure I could. I won’t say what Noah does, but there are other people involved that will have deep trauma for life because of his actions - how can I forgive someone who’s capable of causing that?

This book is a very harrowing and disturbing read, but it hooked me in right from chapter one. It made me think about what I would do in Adrianne’s situation. It made me empathetic to the people going through the other end of Noah’s crime! It made me so angry! It even made me cry towards the end! I thought it was so very well written and even with the dark topic I thought it was a great read.

So glad I gave this one a go, and thank you once again to Lisa for my copy!
