This is a Schlage CO-100 series stand alone electronic keypad lock. It uses a 3 to 6 digit combination along with a 6 pin core for key entry. It is a commercial grade lock pretty common for facilities that have an employee only access point. These are not bad locks, but As you can see from this picture the same code being punched in over and over again wears the numbers off the buttons creating a vulnerability. I've seen this on similar residential locks as well.
After throwing this picture into the googlizer I found out if you use less than 6 digits in the combination you have to use the # button to signal open. The # is not worn out like the other 4, so it indicates a 6 digit combination. There are a possible 1560 combinations. This lock will go into a temporary shutdown mode for 30 seconds if 4 consecutive incorrect codes are entered.
you can get 4 combo tries and allow the cool down period in less than a minute. It would take less than 390 minutes to try all the possible combinations, which sounds like a lot, but considering the facility has allowed the possible combination number to go from 1 million to 1560, 90% of the work is done for a potential attacker.
If you have a combination lock like this on your house or facility, consider upgrading to a scramble code pad as it prevents the wearmarks from revealing your combination and also defends against more sophisticated baiting attacks. Also make sure to change your combination on a regular basis to maintain access control.

Went for a little walk around our nation's capital and noticed a lot of security related issues. Someone decided to see what the fire department kept in this locker and smashed the lock off. What you see is a Knox Ault Pierce FD padlock that utilize the same master key used with the Knox Rapid Access System. It was smashed with (I presume) the rock sitting on the corner of the pad.

What could have been better? Why do you care?

1. A shrouded shackle could have helped prevent the miscreants from getting a good strike on the lock body.
2. If you look around your house/buisness/facility, consider your landscaping options. Maybe don't softball it in by leaving a bunch of big rocks as landscaping that someone can use to get past your security. Smaller gravel or completely paving the area would have at least made the attackers put SOME effort into finding or bringing their own tools.

Rally Point ISR Solutions will be teaching a 1 day Close target reconnaissance class in Fayetteville June 19th where we teach how to spot security gaps. Followed by a 2 day Surveillance Photography class the 20th and 21st. And a Lock Vulnerabilities and Bypass Techniques class the 27th and 28th of June.

Come learn what vulnerabilities you are exposed to because I promise the bad guys already do.

A few pictures from the @tactical_rifleman drone defense class last weekend. Byron from @black_armor_guns doesn't only build awesome rifles, he is a subject matter expert on drones. We learned how to pilot drones, the limitations of the cameras and batteries, analog vs digital flight controls, thermal mitigation techniques and tactics to detect and avoid drones. On top of that using ATAK and mesh networks to coordinate with a team. Couldn't have asked for a better class. by @daniel.keating.7121

Most people think about photography and their minds go immediately to the phone in their pocket. While modern camera phones are leaps and bounds ahead of what they were even a year ago, they are still no replacement for a high end professional camera and a firm grasp on the science of photography.

Photography is critical to ISR and surveillance because it creates attribution of people, places, and things to other people, places, and things. Not only that, but a camera is a critical tool for reconnaissance and surveillance operations at distance or in no-light/low-light scenarios.

In our upcoming 2 day Surveillance Photography course, we will be covering the foundational photography skills required to be successful on surveillance and reconnaissance operations.

Follow the link below for more information. We'll see you at the Rally Point. 🤘🇺🇸
