The old fashioned way of making whisky over direct fire 🔥🥃 @themoffatdistillery The couple Nick and Erin used their life savings to found Moffat distillery and the first cask was filled in March 2024. Having tasted some of their maturing liquid - which has so much character and orchard fruit - I’m very excited to follow their journey towards their first whisky next year 🥃

Still digesting my trip to southern Scotland a couple of weeks back. I spent the first night at @traquairhouse – Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, which also houses a small brewery crafting some beautiful ales. Catherine Maxwell Stuart, 21st Lady of Traquair, was kind enough to show me around the historic brewery that dates back to the early 1700s.

Last week I was lucky to revisit this brilliant bourbon duo @michterswhiskey on a visit to @livetsgoda_magazine Both are incredibly fresh and fruity for their age, yet layered with so many complex nuances of dried fruits and roasted nuts. Definitely some of the best bourbon out there ❤️ Which one would you choose?

Simply a great summer dram @tamnavulinwhisky ☀️🥃 that’s primarily matured in ex-bourbon with a finish in Sauvignon blanc casks. Its bright and fruity with hints of lemon, ginger and stewed apples 🍋🍎🫚 Cheers ❤️

This Zinfandel @martinelliwinery was a mind blowing experience 🤯 ❤️Despite the age there were still vibrant notes of fresh fruit such as blackberries and dark cherry that really enhanced the developed tertiary notes of leather, prunes and baking spices. The vines for this 1.2 hectare plot called the jackass were planted in 1900 on a 60 degree slope — definitely one of the steepest vineyards in Russian River, Sonoma county. Also, incredibly higher abv of 17.5 % that was just so integrated in the flavors. Wow!

Just tried a few wines from the cooperative @vignaiolimorellinodiscansano located in the Maremma region in Tuscany. I really liked the Vigna Fiorini Vermentino that showed a beautiful concentration of mature green apples, honey, brioche and toasted almonds. From the reds my favorite was the Roggiano Morellino Di Scansano - primarily made with Sangiovese and a touch of Alicante. Its bright red fruits such as raspberries and wild strawberries are wonderfully put together with a light tannic structure. Will definitely revisit these wines soon 🍷

Today marks the launch of @kiyokawa.co first single malt whisky 🥃 The Cask, as it’s called, has been matured for three years in an ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry cask and bottles at cask strength. It’s a lovely fruit driven whisky with lots of prunes, roasted almonds, ginger, stone fruits and hints of orange peel. This is definitely a distillery to follow. Kanpai!

At @pearselyonsdistillery Conor Ryan and his team are brewing and distilling in a former church in the very heart of Dublin. They’re growing all their grains on their own land and aren’t afraid of experimenting with lots of old Irish mash bills. Do keep an eye out for some of their pot still whiskey that should be released later this year. It’s really good 🥃🥃

You can’t see it with the naked eye, but @boanndistillery uses nanotechnology that gives several times more copper-to-spirit contact than a traditional still. I’m still trying to wrap my head around how it works, but judging by how good their whiskey is, it’s definitely working. 🥃❤️

What a great visit to @tippdistillery meeting founder and chief distiller Jennifer Nickerson.
Tipperary is pretty much the definition of a small-scale farm distillery. Barley from Jennifer and her husband Liam’s land, along with their own spring water, is used to create their tasty new make before it’s aged in wooden casks in an old barn on their farm. 🌱🥃❤️
