In this chapter of Piece by Piece, we’re sharing the story behind the making of ‘Ritornerai’ by Daniel Warwick.

The film came together spontaneously while the team was preparing a commercial — and falling hopelessly in love with a grand hotel location in the breathtaking Italian Dolomites along the way. Our producer and our beloved director Daniel quickly agreed:

“We decided that it would be irresponsible not to additionally shoot something free-minded and just for fun.”

And so, surrounded by striking landscapes and driven by pure creative instinct, ‘Ritornerai’ came to life — a film made beyond the brief, simply for the love of filmmaking.

NEW (VERY DIFFERENT) WORK… @zauberbergproductions @bencampbelledit @sgllng @bepic.studio @alexandros_giannou

Here’s a little Short/Art/Music Film I shot on the back of a commercial shoot last year. It was one of the most beautiful moments to just simply do something that we came up with 3 days before the shoot. We managed to latch some hours onto the shoot day while we had no client or agency involved. It is very different to what I have ever done. It wants nothing from you. Feel free to dislike it or interpret whatever you like - The process was everything. A crew of 6 wonderful people dancing with a speaker and a camera around the wonderful actor Alexandros. This is in my treasure chest of memories forever.

“Director Daniel Warwick pushed me into a look I hadn’t really explored before, and if I’m honest, I was quietly shitting myself going into it.

Everything was front-lit, against a white building, with nowhere to hide. But that was also the point. When it comes to creating a look, intentionality is what I’m always chasing. There is a real high in finding something bold that still has a clear purpose.

We studied a lot of Martin Parr, and slowly I started seeing a visual language I’d never fully explored before. I believe there is no halfway with a look like this. You have to go all the way and commit to it.

Shooting on film felt essential. The texture, the colour, and especially the way it holds highlights, gave us the feeling we were after. Specially in front of a white building.

If you haven’t challenged your instincts in a while, I highly recommend it. There is a whole other world on the other side.” - @zigzz

Throwback to the Volvo Trucks prep when we meticulously planned every single shot in a hand operated previs to achieve the seemingly logistical impossible. Two trucks doing driving choreos in camera and expressing emotions as mechanical beasts. We needed to know exactly what moves the trucks would do, what lens, which U-crane arm length for distance of camera to shoot two trucks actually driving as we wished. Turning points for two trucks, sharp to the minute sunpaths and any obstacles in the way of camera were taken into account to get these shots we were after. In the end most locations had a reset time of max 5-7mins. Shot in two days and logistically and creatively mastercrafted by @basproductiongram @jandavidgunther @bepic.studio @jjcrueh @andrejcaruso @businessclub.tv
