Unbelievably satisfied a project never thought it would ever come alive in a show. Insects, Vine Hawk Moths, Butterflies, African Hummingbird Moths caught in Jonkershoek, Stellenbosch in 1967.

I made them fly over crystals I dug out in the mountainous regions along the Oranje River in 2015, photographed with ALPA microscopic camera stacking system from Switzerland @alpacameras connected to a computerized rail, taking a photograph every 250th of 1mm then moving forward between each frame. Making a final image of a size of 500 to some 800gigs. Enlarging the specimens 6000% All photographed in front of an oil painted background by Petrus Maree @petrus.maree

Since 2018 - Now they speak life and hopefully remain timeless. Proudly exhibited at the University of Stellenbosch Museum. Where I am the main festival Artist this year at Woordfees!

Finally since 2018 I see them come alive! Seeing these works it feels like I found the true ecstasy of photography! After going through 120TB of files and looking at the monitor for years the world can finally see them!

Many thanks to my friend Ralph Roosenbauer @scavi_aperti and ALPA @alpacameras for the use of their world class microscopic stacking system in 2018. Professor Jan Gilomee and Professor Francois Roets from the Entomology department at the University of Stellenbosch for all your help, information about the insects and lending me these specimens to photograph in my studio. Gisela Hinder from the Rosh Pinah Geo Center for helping me with the names of the gemstones, fluorite and crystals I found on the banks of the Oranje River. And then to my friend Petrus @petrus.maree for oil painting the backgrounds for the set. And then to my wife @carennaude for the support and having hope in me taking on this abnormal career and journey.

Then thanks to Bibi Slippers @bibi_slippers for asking me to woordfees kunstenaar this year!

The opening of my exhibition at the University of Stellenbosch Museum is on the 3rd of October and ends in March 2027.

For more than a decade, photographer Daniel Naudé has practised capturing and perfecting moments of stillness in the natural realm.⁠

Martin Barnes, senior curator of photography at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, observes that each of Naudé's photographs 'is a shared moment in time, one in which the animal and the human seem at once named and yet nameless, specific and yet universal. There is a mutual "now-ness" to his arresting human-animal gazes, mediated by the camera. In total, they read like a remarkable series of ecstatic, intensified meeting points in which we query what it means to be alive, locked in momentary register with another sentient being.’⁠
