The year was 1989. Andy had shows on a few of London pirate radio stations, and I had just come back from a year's residency in China and had started working as a tape op at Simon Cowels studio in Tottenham and eventually got sacked for refusing to deliver a sack of reels to the post office in the rain 😁☂️
.
Both of us were into hip hop, and I'd religiously listen to LWR. @colindale, Tim Wested etc. The start of Electro and so much new music that was just different from what you could hear on the mainstream.
.
It was such a vibrant time where new independent labels were popping up all over the place. The mood was "Why let the major record companies take 80% of our royalties and control our music when we can do it ourselves?"
.
So we decided to start our own label, Boogie Beat Records.
.
I can feel much of the same vibe in the air today, where artists and music lovers all over the world are taking back control and doing it themselves ❤️❤️❤️

I think I recorded this around 2010?? 🤔 Trying to get out of the tech house loop for a few tracks.

I would often play a record on Look At You Records that has a bird sample. I loved playing it early in the morning when the sun was rising. Bonus points if it was an open-air event overlooking the sea.

We’re back with more freshly squeezed goodness, this time inviting some of our favorite early 00’s tech house producers to the plate 🤝

Our second edition features a split EP of unheard tracks from three of the genres finest craftsmen;

We asked them to unearth some deep house grooves from their DAT tapes, and they didn’t dissapoint.
