Kokong festival presents Daniel Savio Daniel Savio is a Grammis-winning Swedish electronic musician, composer, and DJ, widely recognized as one of the pioneers of the Skweee genre. Emerging from Stockholm’s hip hop and graffiti scene, he has built a career defined by an uncompromising analog approach to music production and a distinctive blend of minimalist electro-funk.Savio coined the term Skweee to describe the process of “squeezing” complex sounds out of limited, often analog hardware. The genre is characterized by its sparse yet melodic and funky electronic sound, combining synthesizer-driven melodies with rhythms inspired by R&B and soul. A hallmark of his production style is creating entire tracks—including drums, bass, and melodies—using only a single synthesizer.Beyond music, Daniel Savio is also a visual artist, producing original artworks and music videos that extend the aesthetic of his sonic universe. His visual work has been featured in gallery exhibitions, including Art Life at Riche in Stockholm.Savio first gained national acclaim as a member of the trio Hundarna Från Söder, which won a Swedish Grammis Award for Best Dance Music in 2004. Under the alias Kool DJ Dust, he released The Disco Opera, a sample-based concept album that drew comparisons to artists such as The Avalanches and DJ Shadow. Nu på onsdag 22 är det dags för Spice Lab Forum #2 på Spice Bar (Götgatan 99). Vi har filmvisning i klubbrummet! (I salongen bjuder Andreas och Louie på sin oefterhärmliga blandning av musik som vanligt, med hjälp av gäster). Vi visar filmen ”We Call It Skweee av Iacopo Patierno och David Giese, som skildrar en av Sveriges få riktigt originella musikscener.För drygt 20 år sedan hade hade den elektroniska dansmusiken kört fast. Så mycket musik var strömlinjeformad, bekymmersfri, förutsägbar. 2004 hade producenten Frans Carlqvist fått nog och ville vända på det befintliga manuset för musik. Ett löjligt spretigt gäng hakade på. Tempot sänktes, rytmerna blev stökigare, ljudbilden mer skruvad och infallsvinklarna för den nystartade etiketten ”Flogsta Danshall” (uppkallad efter miljonprogramsområdet i västra Uppsala) var lika mycket tv-spelsmusik från åttiotalet, Timbalands rnb-produktioner, elektronisk funk och dancehall. Egensinnigt och befriad från inställsamhet, med en god portion humor som tillägg.Fem år senare dokumenterade producenten och DJ:n David Giese a.k.a. ”Joxaren” hela scenen för bastardiserad elekronika, en scen som börjat sprida sig internationellt, framförallt lika-skruvat-sinnade kamraterna kring etiketten Harmönia som startades upp av Perttu Eino ”Randy Barracuda” Häkkinen (1979-2018) och Tatu ”Mesak” Metsätähti. I filmen får man följa hur avartselektron klättrar in i dansmusikens tunga finrum Sónarfestivalen. Filmvisningen börjar 21.30. Vi bjuds på en en del oefterhärmliga skweeepärlor, och efter filmen blir det samtal med David Giese och Frans Carlqvist. Skål kosmonauter! by @daniel_savio_official

Celebrating 20 years as solo artist, Daniel Savio presents his 14th album “Hökenström” (Art Life 01). The album is a tribute to his father, and the music was the driver to overcome this period.“I had already started to sketch on an album to make my father happy and proud using his name, Savio is my mothers surname, Hökenström is my fathers. Then he passed away unexpectedly in February 2025. It was one of the most painful experience ever for me, loosing a parent you simply cant be prepared for. I started to compose immediately, because of fear that I might be unable to if I didn’t. What you are listening to is the result of this pain, loss and most importantly love.My great grandfather was gravedigger and his family before that were ”Statare”, the closest thing to a slave you had in Sweden. The ”Statare” worked without pay, the owner of the farm would provide them with food and some kind of very primitive housing and they were practically owned by their ”masters”. The practice was abolished in the early 1900´s.
