So, a week or two back I watched a college kid toss a perfectly good ball bat in a dumpster. I dove right in after to fish it out. I’ve had this massive nut kicking around the garage for a few years and it was a match made in hell. For legal reasons this is a fish priest or tire thumper, not a tool to unhorse an armored man. It is 24” long and weighs enough to dent a tempered helm. #dansaweirdo #wellsmaine #rollyourown #gonnahurt #ouchie by @daniel_worcester

I’ve been working on this First Nation’s reproduction ball head war club on and off for the better part of the year. Last November H2 and I knocked down a big maple in the door yard. As I was processing it into firewood I set aside a big green piece and roughed it out with an axe. I sealed the exposed ends with wood glue and left it under the work bench for about 7 months. Since it mostly dried, I’ve picked away at the shape and a few days ago finalized it and treated with pine tar and linseed oil. Before it was bone white with a dark worm hole streak but now it’s a nice honey color and smells great. The secret addition I’ve given to it was drilling out a recess behind the Hop Hornbeam “plug” where I added 2.5 ounces of number 8 lead bird shot and epoxy. This will give it that extra front weight for practical applications. #dansaweirdo #wellsmaine #warclub #warclubsofinstagram #ballheadwarclub #firstnations #rollyourown #greenwoodworking by @daniel_worcester

17”X15”X8” birch bark grocery bag. This thing is overbuilt. You don’t have to only carry groceries, you can carry gravel, your neighbor’s unconscious ferrets, your anemic, comic book collection, frozen moose tenderloins, five sets (or more) of loose metric sockets, or supplies for a trip to deer camp this fall. The leather is dyed brown and I used maple and cedar “buttons” to attach the handles. I am sure I’m the only person in a 100 mile radius to have built a birch bark bag or to even have one in their dwelling. There is a mistake in the weaving in the rim, it looks like a step down. I know what to do next time. #dansaweirdo #wellsmaine #mainespooncarver #birchbark #birchbarkbasket Hat tip to @birchbarkbeth for her posting her end products on her socials. I love your work, Beth! by @daniel_worcester

This spoon is probably rare-er-er than any I’ve done up in the past or many spoon carvers have made either. It’s a foot long Lilac kitchen spoon that has stunning grain and color. The bowl cracked as it was drying and I had to fit it with a piece of maple and a bamboo food skewer. The repairs were done with TiteBond3 and the wood around the fix will probably break before the bond ever lets go. I was going to keep it due to the repairs but after talking to a few of my customers, the “wabi-sabi” repairs I did recently on the worm hole spoons were a hit. This one is going in the bin for sale/trade/gift. As always finished with ting oil and one of my small tags have been added. The holidays are fast approaching, don’t be left wanting for a baller spoon. #dansaweirdo #wellsmaine #mainespooncarver #spooncarving #slöjd by @daniel_worcester

Weekend recap: spoon staves knocked out, candy, loud lawn tractor, trick or treating, fungus, knives, and mayhem. That’s my cat, Gomez, solid dude. #dansaweirdo #wellsmaine #mainespooncarver #spooncarving #slöjd by @daniel_worcester

Spalted birch shrink pot with a cedar bottom and top. The handle is from a whitetail shed. Anyway, good place to keep your incidentals or dentures. #dansaweirdo #wellsmaine #mainespooncarver #spooncarving #shrinkpot by @daniel_worcester

Some don’t make it. by @daniel_worcester

Skidding this wreck into the weekend on an empty tank with these four birch spoons finished up. That dark heartwood eater is probably my favorite spoon shape so far this year. #dansaweirdo #wellsmaine #mainespooncarver #spooncarving #slöjd by @daniel_worcester

I got a new hooded sweatshirt. #dansaweirdo #wellsmaine #mainespooncarver #spooncarving #slöjd It’s tough being the HR guy, CEO, social media nerd, and head malcontent in a one man biz, but this hoodie helps dull the pain. by @daniel_worcester

Integrating pistol handling with grappling (often called Weapons-Based Jiu-Jitsu, Combatives for Concealed Carry, or weaponized grappling) bridges the gap between martial arts and firearm retention or deployment.

Core Hierarchy of Grappling with a Firearm

• Concealment & Posture: Protecting your draw-space and maintaining a strong base so you cannot easily be knocked over or pinned.
• Limb & Hand Control: Using structural attachments (underhooks, overhooks, bicep ties, and wrist ties) to control the opponent’s hands and keep them away from your waist or holster.
• Weapon Retention: Keeping your pistol holstered or controlled against your body if a clinch or ground fight breaks out, preventing a gun-grab.
• Distance Creation & Disengagement: Using framing, kicks (kickoffs), or sweeps to push the opponent away only when you have the space and legal justification to draw.
• Positional Dominance: Working from standing, the clinch, side control, or guard to neutralize threats, prioritize weapon access, or escape safely rather than hunting for sport-style submissions. by @daniel_worcester
