Some of my very first memories are of asking for a dog. Every Christmas I’d ask Santa to bring me a puppy, every birthday I’d ask my parents, and also just about every other day. When I was seven I got a letter on Christmas morning saying that I was finally gonna get that dog, not knowing it would take four years for that letter to come to fruition. But on December 23rd, 2010, when I walked into my grandparents house, I was presented with a big box. In it, was the tiniest little puppy with a big bow on his head. It was the happiest day of my life.

Max was my soul dog and my very best friend. Any time I would cry he would kiss away my tears. Even when he had just come back from the hospital on all sorts of pain killers, he somehow summoned the strength to crawl on my lap and show me he was okay. He loved to steal balls from the dog park, smelling flowers when we went on walks, but most of all he LOVED his family. All he ever wanted was to be surrounded by us and give us kisses all the time.

2 years ago, Max went into heart failure. The vet said he had a couple months left but, to no one’s surprise, he proved them wrong. He was the strongest dog I’ve ever known. He stood up to bullies at the dog park and held his own against all the big dogs (he was 14 pounds). Anyone who was lucky enough to know Max loved him dearly. And he loved them. He was loving, generous, so sweet, and the bravest little man.

Max - you are and have always been everything to me. You stole my heart before I even knew you existed and were more than worth the wait. We were written in the stars since day one, and you will always be my baby boy. My heart, my love, my poopy. I will miss you for the rest of my life. Until we meet again, Mr. Poopy.
