For the fourth and last day of Meteor sessions, we had the incredible Trio of @piriseliyahu. Born in Derbent, Dagestan, Piris Eliyahu carries into his music the rich meeting place of Caucasian, Persian, and Middle Eastern traditions. Piris’s music is a meeting of ancient Eastern traditions and contemporary expression, shaped by the rich, haunting language of maqam. His instrument, the tar, is a delicate Persian string instrument whose warm, resonant voice can feel almost like a human soul speaking. Hearing it so close in the intimate room of @jazzclub.mitzpe was a rare kind of beauty—quiet, mesmerizing, and deeply alive. It was a joy to listen, and a privilege simply to be there. taken in מועדון הג'אז מצפה רמון - Mitzpe Ramon Jazz Club by @danieliwryn

An original production for Shift, led by Daniel Iwryn, who also composed the music – a live musical journey moving between groove, trance, and free improvisation. An evolving sonic landscape where cyclical rhythms, simple melodies, and shifting textures are woven together in real time.

Drawing inspiration from the trance traditions of North and West Africa, alongside contemporary electronic music and improvisational practices rooted in Arabic music, the performance moves between hypnotic pulses, acoustic resonance, and immersive electronic atmospheres.

Featuring: Daniel Iwryn (guembri), David Dagmi (percussion), Itamar Gutman (percussion), Mika Reani (trumpet), Tao Samuelson (synthesizer), Musa Abbasi (Ney), Muna Haj (vocals).
