tfw you want to hop on a trend but you’ve been positing this gooey sh….ow of emotion stuff for months now.

I read about the ‘why’ behind @jennaececelia’s poem and what made it resonate with so many people. I think maybe we just get swept up in the passage of time and we struggle to see both how far we’ve come and also what led us to this moment. So this is what popped into my head.

We had our last ballet class this week and I had a moment where I thought back to little Dan who gave it up because he was bullied, and then even Week 1 Dan who was convinced he’d never manage a pirouette. And there I was giving doubles a go and thinking “I bet I could…”

I’m not the best dancer in our class - I’m out of shape and my muscles are tighter than ever from years of not taking care of myself. But I’m having fun, and this clip is that 💚

Oh, he’s an ACTOR, is he? I see! Please swipe to see my incredible and powerful range (and stay to the end for what some are calling a surprise, others a jump scare…)

These are the brilliant work of @michaelcarlophotography, who I cannot thank or recommend enough. I was incredibly nervous for a bunch of reasons, but he created such a chill vibe and positive, encouraging energy, especially when I did a close shave for the first time in about four years! Thank you Michael, you’re a gem.

I think headshots are such a peculiar thing. They feel so personal - it’s our face and the way agents and casting directors first see us - but they also have to capture an actor in a way that makes them anybody and everybody and one specific person all at the same time. So it really matters to work with someone like Michael, who completely gets that.

On a personal level, this is another one of those milestones along this path to where I want to be. Couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. Onto the next milestone!💚🎭 by @danieljlayton

Started drama school today. Thought of Little Dan the whole time.

Thank you so much for all the support! It’s been so helpful with managing the nerves, which are softer but still present and have been joined by some new ones. This is induction week, so just settling in, finding our feet, allowing the tutors to figure out where we’re at ahead of training beginning properly next week. Still feel like they’re gonna hear one note and revoke my student card, but…probably won’t happen…

Once we’re settled in I can’t wait to start vlogging and sharing what I’m up to. In the mean time, head over to join the Cosy Club at your leisure! Link in the ol’ bio.

Here we go! by @danieljlayton

Was anyone else distressed by the violent turn in the weather this week? 20s and sunny one day, then raining and reaching for the slippers the next. Not my fave.

So I’m bringing back my October movie watchlist for us all to get nice and cosy with. When Harry Met Sally is not on here because it is NOT an Autumn film. Don’t make me tap the sign.

What are you watching this weekend??

Oh lads this might be my favourite series of Bake Off in a very long time. It’s barging its way into the top 5 as we speak, by the end of the run it may be on the podium. Audience Week was delightful from start to finish and the more we learn about these bakers the more I want them all to stay. Here’s another little episode of my recap, which I v much hope you’re enjoying!! 💚🎂

(Credit to Luke Owen for the Jurassic Park shout, but to be fair he’s pinched so many of my stories over the past few years that turnabout is fair play.) by @danieljlayton

A few weeks ago, while working at the bookshop, I asked for recommendation requests on my story, and then I found this from Sofia in my DMs! (yes I read them, yes i know the secrets you put there thinking I don’t… 👀)

I know “cosy crime” is a name that some folks don’t love for the whodunnit genre, but I’m quite keen! Maybe it comes from the time I first fell for the genre, travelling on trains, often at night to save a few quid on the ticket, whizzing past twinkling houses on hillsides while Autumn rain lashed the window. The mysteries might be grizzly, but my setting was most definitely cosy!

So here are some picks old and new I think you might like to pick up now the weather’s starting to turn. My most favourite thing about bookselling is finding books and connecting them with readers, so maybe we’ll make this a regular little thing?! by @danieljlayton

When you find out that your friend has never heard of Ina Garten, there is only one way to inform them. Show up to their house with a plateful of freshly baked Pecan Shortbread cookies, and do it dressed as her holding a bathtub sized cosmopolitan. (NB: I didn’t film that part, sorry.)

We’re FULLY into cosy season now and I’m honestly loving carving some time out to spend in the kitchen making things from my alarmingly vast collection of cookbooks. Snoop around at my bookshelf and let me know if there’s any particular book I should bake from next! by @danieljlayton

It’s biccie week, lads, and after seeing those cookies, I now understand how Buggs Bunny could float throw windows on the power of greed alone. Delicious. Would happily break into the tent and steal them all.

Here’s my now-weekly recap of Bake Off, and I truly feel this series is already a classic. Hope you’re having fun with these, let me know how you think we should play it for the rest of the season!! by @danieljlayton

20 years of Wicked on the West End. 22 years since I first got hold of the CD and, forgive me, it changed me for good.

After listening countless times, I first saw it in person in early ‘07 when Kerry Ellis became the first British Green Girl. Seeing it again over this 20th anniversary weekend, after all these years and at this moment in my life, felt very special. Just the jolt I needed.

I only got teary once: as Elphaba makes her entrance, runnjng into Shiz with wide eyes, and the audience erupted. Theatre. By people, about people and for people. Still magic 💚 by @danieljlayton

BAKE OFF IS BACK!! So let’s check in on those predictions I made a few weeks ago, in what I’ve decided will be a weekly recap I’m calling HALF BAKED. Hold for applause…okay.

If’s always my most best comfort show but this is absolutely shaping up to be the best series in a good while, and it’s all down to this cast of bakers whom I have decided I would run into battle for. We’ve got our fantasy league going and I’ve got until next week to finalise my six, but how do you choose between them?! Nikki went straight in based on headscarves alone but I fear I may be sleeping on Connie…

What did you think, who do we love, what flavour will you be thinking about all week? Personally I’m stuck dreaming about Moyin’s hibiscus curd. by @danieljlayton

I don’t mean to wish my life away, but if Tuesday night doesn’t get a shift on I’m going to throw a strop.

I don’t think there’s many more simple pleasures than a coffee and walnut cake, enjoyed best imo with a strong mug of builders tea. Which is ironic.

I’ve got so many recipes on my shelves, but Nigella’s uses espresso powder which really amps up the bitter coffee flavour that cuts through the sweetness of the rest of the cake. It is truly glorious and I come back to it again and again.

Let me know what you’re gonna make this week as an offering to the Gingham Gods. #bakeoff #homebaker by @danieljlayton
