BTS filming one of the most epic venue's Melbourne's got 💥

The Regent Theatre doesn't just look incredible with all that architecture, it sounds incredible too. And getting to film @michaelpaynter in that room for The Great Australian Songbook? Genuinely one of those shoots you tick off the bucket list. The talent that man has is next level, one take, live, no safety shot, and he nailed every single one.

My RED Komodo doesn’t just shoot 16-bit RAW—it’s also my secret to the perfect brew ☕. Want to know how? Drop ‘Brew Master’ in the comments, and I’ll send you a free guide to turn your RED into a coffee-making machine. (Trust me… 60% of the time it works, every time 😏).”

When you promise the family no working tonight, but the client asks for ‘one small change.’

Based on a true story…. 😂

Anyone else relate?

Four steps to turn this lounge room into golden hour.

No light → fake sun → edge light → key light.

Step five: add a baby for emotional depth. Huddy did not agree to this.

Sunlight: Nanlite 720c
Edge Light: Nanlite 120c
Key: Nanlite 120c with softbox by @danielkelaart

Faking golden hour in the studio with three @nanlite.australia lights:

1️⃣ FC-720C + Fresnel outside the window as the “sun”. Keep it low, because a real sunset sits near the horizon.
2️⃣ Curtains pulled in to break the light up and create shadows and pockets of light.
3️⃣ FC-120C with a softbox as a key to lift exposure and wrap the light around the room.
4️⃣ PavoTube to motivate the lamp in the background and add some edge.
Real sunset gives you 20 minutes. This one lasts all night.

Save this for your next night shoot 📌

Four lights, two gobos, some neg fill, and the @accsoon.australia CineView M7 Pro doing the heavy lifting so I can light the whole set solo without running back to camera. Full breakdown in the video

Is this lighting setup overkill? Let me know👇

It's amazing what you can achieve with lighting and angles

This isn't a lounge room. It's the corner of my studio, with some curtains, a Marketplace lamp and two Nanlites doing all the heavy lifting.

LIGHTING:
FC-720C with Fresnel and barn doors as the window light
FC-120C with a softbox and grid as the key, so it shapes without washing out the scene

You don't need a big set or a big budget. You just need to control your light and pick the right frame.

Final sign-off from my little lighting assistant 😂

With light vs without. If you picked the second one...we need to talk 😅

Here's how I built this one:
☀️ Fake sun: FC-720C + FL-20G Fresnel
💡 Back edge: FC-120C
💡 Key: FC-120C in a 60cm softbox
Neg fill plays a big roll here. Without it, the light bounces everywhere!

These have pretty much become my go-to kit for interviews now. Enough power, full RGB when I want to push colour, and small enough that the setup doesn't take over the room.

Faking Golden Hour at 9pm 🕰️

☀️ Sun: Nanlite FC720c with the fresnel. Pushed it far back from the window and up high so the light comes in hard and throws that window texture across the back wall.

💡 Key: Nanlite FC120c in a 60com softbox, through an extra layer of diffusion to the source bigger and softer

On the shadow side I used some negative fill to kill the bounce and bring back some contrast.

And that’s it. No sunset required.
