I’ve noticed a few of us changing how we use Insta… something must be in the air, because me too 😅

I have a few different projects coming out this year and I need my online spaces to align better with my offline life (I can’t avoid it anymore) 🤪 That means switching up how I use the socials just a little. I’ll be writing more - mostly on the topics you’re used to seeing from me - but with more curation.

Anyway, first blog post drops soon... a variety of topics with commentary in between. A new blog every fortnight. Easy does it. Kicking things off with travel ✈️

📍 Kunta Kinteh Roots Tour
Meet Aja Mariama, 8th generation descendent of Kunta Kinte. He was survived by his 3 brothers who fortunately remained in Gambia, whilst Kunta was taken to America (as depicted by the book and film Roots).

The youth were often warned not to go far from the village because of kidnappings. Kunte was collecting firewood at the time in the forests around his home village, but when the Europeans started to approach them, he didn't run like the others. He was known to be fearless and likely to have thought he could fight them off. His capture was heavily mourned at the time, especially as someone who had such a reputation in his village.

Accounts show he was frequently denied food/water to weaken his mental and physical strength. He continued to rebel in America - attempting to escape several times and refusing the name given by the enslavers (Toby).

The piecing together of Kunta's story was a combination of accounts written in English in America - the stories he told his daughter on the plantations & spoken words passed down through the generations about the history of their ancestors. And through this, the eventual trace back to Gambia and the Mandinka Tribe. The Mandinka people were known as the oral history keepers of the villages. They recognised the family name Kinteh and through linguistic work, the tribe uncovered more about him. Together with the English and Mandingo, they gathered enough evidence of Kunte's life.

An island previously known as Andrew's Island was renamed to Kunte Kinteh island to keep his memory alive. The man who had no fear and refused to forget his identity.

It was a powerful lesson on the importance of stories, honouring indigenous, tribal languages and remembering your roots... because how else can your people find you?

Thank you Kunte 🖤👑 And thank you Mandinka Tribe for holding our history ✨️

Spring is on it's way and so is a new release 🥳 The last workbook for girls and young women is on the topic of relationships (from friendships to intimacy), dropping March 23rd.

Two fundamental truths I've seen during my time working within community: (1) those around us affect our mental health, and (2) our mental health impacts our relationships. The two are very closely linked.

This is a compilation of the type of conversations I've had for years, from classrooms to family homes, from prisons to hospitals. I've been working within the community for almost 15 yrs and been trained in regards to mental health support and therapeutic methods. #imnotfreestyling 😅

Topics include boundaries, healthy relationships and consent, to red flags and personal values.

I'll share more about the releases and how to order over the next few weeks, but I'm excited to finish this project 💕 It's amazing to still hear stories about how the first release has helped people, and I'm believing this one will do the same.

When your friends DJ at international events for a mature crowd... and you realise it's the perfect opportunity for a bucket list trip with Mum 🫶🏽 She's always wanted to cruise down the River Nile 🙌🏽

Being part of a private event meant we had the whole ship to ourselves (well... 110 of us 😂), plus good music, great vibes and well-connected tour guides who knew how to avoid the biggest crowds and navigate the market traders too.

Definitely one of my favourite trips and Mum said it's her best one to date! #awinisawin

The architecture... the scale! 2,000-year-old temples. Hieroglyphics. Buzzing city life. Views and communities along the Nile riverbank. Visiting the Nubian region (descendants of ancient civilization) & learning about the shared history of Egypt and Sudan 🙏🏽❤️‍🩹 as one land. Standing in a cave where Mary, Joseph & Jesus (locally known as 'the Holy Family') took short refuge. Seeing the mummies of Pharaohs, including those alive during the time of Moses. Wild.

Dipping my feet in the River Nile. Being called "habibi" in the right context 😅 Gaining a congregation of aunties and uncles who showed me so much love.

I could go on.

A beautiful reminder to keep saying yes to new experiences ✨️

Easing my way back to the grid.

It’s funny that my last post was about hard work... because that’s mostly what I’ve been doing since 😅 Q1 = hibernate and hustle. Laying new foundations, with a little fun and quality time along the way.

Anyway, it’s finally warmer outside so that’s my sign to resurface 🌸

I hope everyone’s doing okay in this noisy world. It's a tricky time for adulting! Sending good energy your way ✨🙏🏽 by @danielleennis_

People may comment on what you have or the life you live, but they rarely know what it took to get there 😅 Don’t feel guilty for enjoying what you worked hard for 🫶🏽 Allow yourself joy when it comes.

Align yourself with those who want to grow, build, share and give thanks ☝🏽 You can’t lift others up if you’re constantly feeling weighed down — good energy helps everyone rise higher 💫 taken in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia by @danielleennis_

So, I finally pulled all the info together 💃🏽

Solo travel can sound exciting… until you start overthinking everything. Where should I stay? Is it safe? What if something goes wrong?

I’ve been there - and I’ve learned that confidence doesn’t come from having all the answers, but from preparation and knowing how to adapt 😅

This is a glimpse of some of my lessons, but the full guide breaks it down step by step.

Covers:
• choosing the right area to stay
• staying connected & safe
• packing smarter
• building confidence along the way

Save this if solo travel is on your mind for 2026 🤍
Read it when you’re ready.

This year asked for a different kind of focus - less planes, more planning and more grounding 😮‍💨 But with quieter seasons comes space to collate thoughts and share the stories I’ve been carrying ✨

So as we close out the year, I’m returning to the blog to make sure I get these solo travel tips posted! I hope they help to spark your next adventure in 2026 🌍🤍 taken in Crete, Greece by @danielleennis_
