As everybody’s talking about it AGAIN…We’re constantly told how important school attendance is — and I agree. Education is important.

But here’s what I don’t understand…

There are children in this country who struggle to get a school place in the first place.

There are families waiting for places, children on waiting lists, children who don’t get into the school they need — and the government has systems in place because this is a genuine issue.

Yet if a parent takes their child out of school without permission, suddenly we’re talking about fines.

So forgive me, but isn’t there a bit of a contradiction here?

You can’t tell parents, “Your child MUST be in school,” while some families are struggling to actually get their child into an appropriate school in the first place.

And before the comments start… I’m not saying children shouldn’t attend school.

I’m saying maybe the system needs to work for families before we start financially punishing them.

ADHD is still so misunderstood.
ADHD awareness week

Especially when you’re looking at a child from the outside and only seeing the behaviour.

As a mum of children with ADHD, I’ve learnt that sometimes what looks like defiance, laziness or “not listening” is actually a child struggling with something you can’t see.

Before you judge the parent, remember you have no idea what’s happening behind that front door.

Nothing gets teenagers out of bed quicker than the words… “there’s been a bomb scare.” 😭😂

Suddenly school isn’t so difficult to get to, is it?!

Obviously, jokes aside, the situation was serious and the area was put into lockdown — but after the morning battles I’ve had trying to get these two out of bed, the irony wasn’t lost on me! 😂
