Another fall day without rain and I don’t know if I should celebrate or worry. (Probably both)

“3 Worlds” Started this tiny drawing a few years ago. Finished it last week. I don’t always know why I keep everything I make but sometimes it works out.

One of my favorite spots in Seattle is Golden Gardens park. The light through this little grove of trees is always perfect.

I have a small collection of old cameras. Most I bought at antique stores, flea markets, vintage malls, and some were given to me from family and friends. This is one of the most beautiful.

“I really feel sorry for people who think things like soap dishes or mirrors or Coke bottles are ugly, because they’re surrounded by things like that all day long, and it must make them miserable.” — Robert Rauschenberg
1) wrench I found at a flea market in Newburyport, Massachusetts that I bought for $1 because I liked the shape- It lives on my wall
2) a 2.5” porcelain doll head that lives in a bell jar on my bookshelf
3) a shell from Cape Cod that my dad found and gave to us to take home one year

I bought this little 8” souvenir rowboat in Mystic, CT in grad school on a road trip with my boyfriend. He was (is) a sculptor and turned me on to antique shops and encouraged my collecting little objects. I kept making sketches of rowboats back then. This rowboat lost it’s brass oar stands a few years back and one of the oars broke off but for a nearly 30 year old souvenir that’s lived in 3 states and 7 homes, I think she’s holding up well.

Really old shell and a big pinecone
..
This shell was in a collection someone donated to the @woodlandparkzoo . About 20 years ago I was there volunteering with my students and they had us go through random bags of stuff. They were going to get rid of this bag and said I could keep one. I picked the oldest one.
This pinecone is about 7” tall.

Two sticks I love
..
I’ve just started a series of photographs of objects I’ve collected that have lived with me for years.
I keep thinking about getting rid of most of my little collections. I don’t want to leave this all for someone else to deal with someday. But I also@love being surrounded by objects that are beautiful or strange or fun or remind me of a time or place. So many this series I’m starting will help me declutter. Or maybe it’s to remind me why I have kept these objects around forever.
