Not all advice is wrong. But not all advice is right for every situation.

We’re often encouraged to let people make their choices, accept what we cannot control and move on.

Sometimes that’s exactly what we need to do.

But sometimes there’s a conversation worth having, a misunderstanding worth exploring or a relationship worth fighting for.

I believe good advice should encourage us to think, not simply tell us what to do.

I’m Daniel Mercer, exploring a different perspective on relationships, communication and personal growth.

Follow along if you believe there’s always room to question what we’ve been told.

You cannot control another person’s choices.

But that doesn’t mean you have no influence over what happens next.

Sometimes the difference is an honest conversation. A different approach. A willingness to listen. Or the courage to say something that needs to be said.

The challenge isn’t always knowing what we cannot control.

It’s recognising what we can still do.

That’s one of the ideas I’m exploring as I write my first book.

Not everything can be fixed.

Not every relationship can be saved.

And not every situation deserves more of your energy.

But knowing when to let go isn’t always as simple as being told to move on.

Sometimes we need to speak. Sometimes we need to listen. Sometimes we need to change something about ourselves.

And sometimes we need to accept that we’ve done enough.

I’m exploring the space between trying to control what happens and giving up on what might still be possible.

If these are the kinds of questions you find yourself asking, I’d love you to join me on this journey.

Not everything that drifts apart is meant to stay apart. 🌊

Sometimes people need space.
Sometimes emotions need time to settle.
And sometimes two people drift apart, not because they’ve stopped caring, but because neither knows how to find their way back.

Distance can bring clarity. But it can also create misunderstandings that grow the longer we leave them unspoken.

Not every relationship should be repaired. Some distances are necessary, and some endings are right.

But when something matters, perhaps it’s worth asking whether the distance is really what we want, or simply what we’ve allowed to happen.

The tide goes out. Sometimes it comes back.

💬 Have you ever reconnected with someone after thinking you’d drifted apart for good?

100 followers. Thank you. ❤️

Every journey starts somewhere, and today we’ve reached our first little milestone.

When I started this page, I wanted to create a space where we could question the advice we’re often told to follow, explore different perspectives and have meaningful conversations about relationships, communication and human behaviour.

I’m also writing my first book, and having people join me while that journey is still unfolding means a great deal.

To everyone who’s followed, liked, commented, shared a thought or simply taken a moment to read something I’ve written — thank you.

100 might be a small number in the world of social media, but behind every follow is a real person who has chosen to be here. I don’t take that for granted.

Here’s to more conversations, more perspectives and plenty more chapters ahead.

We’re only just getting started.

Not every argument is really about what started it.

Sometimes it’s about feeling unheard.
Sometimes it’s about something that’s been building for weeks.
And sometimes two people are so busy defending themselves that neither feels understood.

That doesn’t excuse shouting, disrespect or repeated hurtful behaviour.

But when a relationship matters, learning to recognise what’s underneath a disagreement can change the conversation.

The goal isn’t always to prove who’s right.

Sometimes it’s to understand why you’re both hurting.

💬 Have you ever had an argument that turned out to be about something completely different?

Sometimes, the hardest conversations are the ones we have with ourselves.

They haven’t replied.
They seem distant.
Something feels different.

And before we’ve asked a single question, we’ve already decided what it means.

But what if the story we’ve created isn’t the whole story?

Our past experiences can shape how we interpret the present. Sometimes we’re responding not just to what’s happening, but to what we’re afraid might happen.

Not every silence is rejection.
Not every distance means goodbye.

Sometimes, understanding begins when we question our own assumptions.

An early glimpse into the thinking behind my first book. 📖

💬 Have you ever convinced yourself something was wrong, only to discover there was another explanation?

A little distance can bring a lot of perspective.

It’s strange how stepping away from everyday life can make you see certain things more clearly.

The conversations that seemed urgent. The worries that occupied too much space. The things we convinced ourselves needed an immediate answer.

And then, somewhere between slowing down and simply enjoying the moment, you realise that not everything deserves the energy you’ve been giving it.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is stop trying to be productive.

A little time away. A little more perspective.

And a reminder to be present for the life we’re so busy trying to improve.

Being the first to apologise doesn’t mean you were the only one who was wrong.

Sometimes, it simply means you’re willing to acknowledge your part before the other person acknowledges theirs.

You can take responsibility for your words without accepting responsibility for everything that happened.

An apology isn’t a declaration of defeat.

And being the first to offer one doesn’t make you the weaker person.

Sometimes, it’s how a difficult conversation finally begins.

Have you ever apologised first, even when you knew the blame wasn’t entirely yours?

You can’t control how people feel. But you can choose what you do next.

When someone’s reaction leaves you feeling hurt, frustrated or misunderstood, it’s easy to spend your energy trying to change their mind.

But before you react, try The Next Move — a simple three-step approach to finding a little more clarity.

👁️ 1. NOTICE

Pause and acknowledge what you’re feeling.

Are you hurt by what happened, or by what you believe it means?

Sometimes separating the two changes how we see the situation.

⚖️ 2. CHOOSE

Ask yourself three questions:

• What can I control?
• What might I still be able to influence?
• What do I need to accept?

You cannot decide how someone else feels. But you can choose to explain yourself, ask a question, listen or set a boundary.

Acceptance doesn’t always have to mean inaction.

➡️ 3. REFOCUS

Decide where your energy is best spent next.

Perhaps it’s having an honest conversation. Perhaps it’s giving someone space. Or perhaps you’ve already done everything reasonable, and it’s time to move forward.

The important thing is recognising the difference.

You don’t have to control the outcome to have a say in what happens next.

💬 Which step do you find hardest — Notice, Choose or Refocus?

📌 Save this for the next time someone’s reaction leaves you unsure what to do.

We’ve become very good at identifying red flags.

But sometimes we forget that two people can disagree without either being the problem.

Not every difficult conversation means a relationship is unhealthy.

Sometimes it’s simply two people learning how to understand each other.

Of course, repeated disrespect, intimidation and harmful behaviour are different.

But ordinary disagreement doesn’t always need a verdict. Sometimes it needs a conversation.

Communication before conclusions.
