Had a day off touring for THIS IS A DOOR in Phoenix, AZ and the hiking was a dream. What a gorgeous landscape. Also, there was a 50-pound pup in our group and she got tired so we took turns carrying her down on our shoulders and it was the BEST PART. #ThisIsADoor #Books by @danielnayeri

One challenge of being on the road for a book tour (THIS IS A DOOR / 10/27) is you eat junk food so I've tackled it this time with my POUCH OF TASTY THINGS. There's pickles (and separated out pickle juice), dates, Duke's Spicy Sausages, dried mango, cheese wheels, pistachios, and Fishwife tinned fish.

I'm still working on the ideal set-up. Advice always welcome.

A couple years ago, I was lucky enough to publish DRAWN ONWARD with @mcrockefeller, a picture book that was entirely palindromic in words and pictures. It was a story of how we grieve (very rarely in a linear fashion).

Well, immediately after we finished that long process of puzzling that book out, I didn't want to stop. And delightfully so, neither did Matt.

We set to work on DRAWN INWARD, a book that comes out today. This time, the story is about a boy who has the kind of tantrums that make you lose total control. This time, the boy is walking through his house dealing with gigantic feelings, and this time Dad comes along for the journey. He teaches his son how to get ahold of those feelings, how to ground himself in his senses when he's losing control, and that he'll be there for him either way.

The text is a pantoum this time, a circular poetic form that felt fitting to the story, and the visuals (oh boy oh boy the visuals) are symmetrical in ways that still blow me away.

I hope you'll take a look at this one, friends. Much love. #DrawnInward #Books #Picturebooks by @danielnayeri

My son's birthday party was this weekend, which means I spent Friday making his cake. It requires a tall glass of milk. A 4-layer chocolate cake decorated with #Maltesers and #VioletCrumble. by @danielnayeri
