Today we said goodbye to Lolla for 18mo. 🥹 She left to serve a mission in Guatemala for the @churchofjesuschrist. It was hard but so special. She’ll be in the same country as @berkleyodonnal serving and teaching people about Jesus. Who would’ve guessed?!
Love that girl so much. Nothing can prepare you to let your kids go out and leave your protection and care so that they can grow, learn and experience the richness of challenge & suffering and the joy that comes from both.
We’ll miss her soooo much but are so proud of her and know Who’s hands she’ in and errand she’s on. #antigua #2inGuate 🇬🇹🙏🏽🤍🩵 taken in Antigua Guatemala by @danielodonnal

I spent the weekend with my two littles at the @byucougars Girl Dad Camp. It was an amazing experience and reminded me how special and sacred it is to be a Dad and that these girls are the reason why. To show up for them every day is a privilege and blessing. @diljeetdosanjhtaylor taught us that the biggest decline in girls’ confidence begins around ages 10–12, accelerates through 12–14, and often reaches its lowest point around age 14–15. And that a father’s role is one of the strongest protective factors in a daughter’s confidence, resilience, and long-term sense of identity. A father ultimately shapes how his daughter sees herself. I’m grateful for the message I can send to my girls that “Your value has never depended on any of the things you do or are. You are loved before you achieve, before you succeed, and before anyone approves of you. You are enough.” #girldad taken in BYU by @danielodonnal

Today we sat and learned from two amazing humans, @davismsmith and Asialene Smith. They have been serving as Mission Leaders in Recife, Brazil for the last three years and are headed home in about 2 weeks. The insights, stories and truths they shared with these youth were absolute gold. 🥇💚
Three takeaways:
1. Find your “Edgar” (Purpose) 🤲
2. Show up and Do hard things. 💪🏽
3. Love others, in your own way but Love. ❤️

Obrigado per seu tempo President e Sister Smith. 🙏🏽 taken in Olinda, Brazil by @danielodonnal

Mom @elenaodonnal you’ve always been there. Supporting me and cheering me on. Teaching me what matters most and being an example of courage and strength. Thanks for always walking with me no matter what and showing up. I 100% won the mom-game and if I had to choose my mom I’d choose you every time. by @danielodonnal

Words cannot describe the joy we feel for Lolla. 🥹

Lolla got her mission call to Guatemala Antigua - which shares a border with Berkley’s mission.

I just sat with that tonight.

There are 451 missions in the world. The odds of two sisters being called to neighboring missions is something like 1 in 20,000 or .005%. But I don’t think God works in statistics or odds. I think He works in covenants and miracles. And it’s amazing how both can be true simultaneously.

John and Carmen (my grandparents) gave 50+ years to Guatemala.

Carmen was the first person baptized in all of Central America. My Mom was born and raised there. And Lolla’s middle name - Carmen - has always carried more weight than we maybe realized.

Tonight it all came rushing in at once. What they planted, God is still harvesting. And He picked two of our girls to do it. 🙏

I’m just really grateful.

Arguably my hardest day as a parent. Dropping off my daughter @berkleyodonnal to serve an 18 month mission in Guatemala. The longer I live the more I respect that suffering is sacred. That it is through hard and vulnerable experiences that we not only grow closer to God but also to purpose and meaning. Guate is getting the best there is. Treat her well and love her deeply. Back to your roots B. In God’s hands. #BerkinGuate by @danielodonnal

Today is April 6th. I’m standing at the Normandy American Cemetery in France, in front of a 22-foot bronze statue called “The Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves.”

I thought of you both today. I thought of Mack.

The statue doesn’t show a soldier in combat. It shows a young man — arms open, head raised — rising. Most of the 9,389 boys buried in the rows behind it were 18, 19, 20 years old. They left home. They crossed an ocean. They gave everything for people they would never know and never meet. They didn’t come back.

The inscription carved at the base reads: “Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.” Below that: “To these we owe the high resolve that the cause for which they died shall live.”

Mack also left home as a young man in the service of something greater than himself. He also gave everything. And you also carry that — every single day — with a grace I deeply admire.

The stones beneath this statue were brought up by hand from Omaha Beach below — the same beach those boys crossed under fire. Someone thought it mattered that the ground they walked on to reach the sea would be the ground beneath the statue’s feet forever.

I think Mack would understand that kind of devotion. I think he lived it.

On the day you remember him, I wanted you to know that halfway around the world, standing on ground made sacred by young men who gave all they had — I was thinking of your son too.

Easter Sunday. ✝️🌅

I’m grateful today — for His life, His atonement, His crucifixion, and His resurrection. For what He taught and the way He lived. For the love He showed the oppressed, the cast out, the forgotten.

We sometimes forget the world He stepped into — the turmoil, the hatred, the absolute tension. And into all of that, He brought hope, truth, and light. He set people free.

So many felt seen for the very first time.

The woman at the well.
The leper.
The broken.
The lame.
The woman with the issue of blood.
The daughter.
The son.
The best friend.
The child.
The crippled.
The blind.
The poor.
The educated.
The fearful.
The weak.
The disciple.

Aren’t each of us, at some point in our life, every one of these people?

Some He lifted with words. Others with a touch. Still others with nothing more than a look of compassion.

And what a blessing — to know Him. To live in such a way as to be a healer and a light. To resurrect the best in others. To help them see themselves as He sees them.
He lives.

What joy that simple sentence gives —

I know that my Redeemer lives. by @danielodonnal
